I know I'm probably not the only one but by this point it seems like I won't be out of nursing pads until LO is weaned. We're 7 weeks and I'm still spontaneously having letdown a couple times in between each feeding. Not only that but it's filling up the entire (regular sized) nursing pad every time. The cotton washable pads are a joke, because when I leak it immediately goes right through to my clothes. I had found a disposable kind that I like, Nuk Super Dry, but it seems they've been discontinued or at least all of the stores around have stopped carrying them completely.
So last night I went to Target and bought a pair of Lily Padz, the reusable silicone stick-on pads that are supposed to put pressure on your nipple to keep you from leaking at all. You just peel one off when it's time to nurse and then stick it back on afterwards. I had read reviews online and for the most part it looked like people had decent luck with them working just as long as they were pressed on securely.
I made sure to read the instructions and press them on as securely as possible to avoid human error. Well, very soon after I got home and put them on, it was time to feed LO. So I pulled it off the side she was going to nurse from and crossed my fingers that the other side would work as advertised. I had the letdown feeling on the other side, but just assumed it was working as planned.
About 5 minutes I I felt a weird sensation going across both of my boobs and LO pulled back really suddenly. I looked down to find that the Lily Pad had completely filled up with milk and there was about a 1 cm gap where the seal had broken and was forcefully pouring a stream of milk across both boobs and onto LO's face! I held down the gap with my finger and got DH to hold her while I tried to fix the situation. I grabbed a storage bottle in hopes to catch the trapped milk, but instead when I tried to slowly pull back the pad all of it poured out all over the floor.
So, have any of you tried the Lily Padz and had any luck? I'm trying to figure out if I just need to get the hang of them or if they were just a waste of 20 bucks. If not, do you have a specific type of nursing pad/solution for heavy leakage that works really well for you?
