How does one go about getting their LO to nap in the crib? I rock DD to sleep just like at night but as soon as she hits the crib during the day, she wakes up and thinks it's playtime. I used to rock her until she woke up from her nap, but I got tired of that and took to laying next to her in my bed. Now that she's mobile, she's up and crawling the second her eyes open so I can't leave her- her naps are hour and a half- I waste 3 hours of the day laying next to sleeping baby. I think I've created a monster!
DD is still like that in the crib sometimes and DH is very anti co-sleeping now that she's mobile so naps can a struggle some days. To get DD to nap in the crib I either have to nurse her to sleep or DH will give her a bottle and/or rock her and sing to her until she passes out. Basically we just carefully put her down completely asleep most of the time.
If she's really over tired and either fussing and fighting sleep or being playful we sometimes just put her in the crib with music playing and leave the room. She'll crawl around and cry a little but will usually go to sleep pretty quickly. We've never attempted full on CIO but she seems to have figured out how to go to sleep on her own anyway. If she's still fussy after 10 minutes I'll try nursing again and honestly I sometimes just give up if it doesn't work at that point. Skipping naps hasn't been noticeably affecting her nighttime sleep so I figure we're doing OK.
I haven't tried just putting her in crib awake for nap- might have to give it a try. We did sleep training at 6 months which worked wonders for nighttime sleep. But with crawling and pulling up, it has gone out the window. She's always completely out when I try to put her in crib for naps, but she always wakes up as soon as she's in the crib. Ugh- I will just keep trying! Thanks for your advice!!!

I don't have good advice because I spend about an hour at each nap and at bedtime trying to get DS to sleep, so you'd be losing the same amount of time. He is getting better at "putting himself to sleep" in that I no longer ever rock him until completely asleep as of about a week ago. I put him in the crib and let him play and kick and roll around in there until he cries, then I rock him just until he stops fussing. I repeat this until he eventually falls asleep in the crib. As long as he isn't crying or upset, I leave him and often leave the room to fold laundry, make dinner, etc. *sometimes* this only takes 15-20 minutes. I'm hoping I'm helping him create the habit of putting himself to sleep.
Thanks! I think we are going to re-sleep train this week. It was so wonderful when she could put herself to sleep. She's pretty good at putting herself back to sleep in MOTN. Maybe going back to sleep training will help with naps?? We'll see!

I have no idea. Daycare was just letting her sleep wherever she fell asleep because she wakes up as soon as she hits the crib. Now that I'm staying at home with her I have no idea what to do.
Let me know if you come up with something!! Yesterday I moved from our bed to the rocker in the nursery to try to get her in crib. Both naps she woke up as soon as her head hit the mattress. So I held her in the rocking chair for a grand total of 3 hours yesterday. My ass hurts! Something's gotta give!
Almost home from our vacation (like a few blocks) and now to unpack and wash all the laundry. DS did awesome. By far the best travel we have had with him, and he was so fun at meals. He loves to eat! And he maybe might be an AW. We had horrible traffic coming home so I'm glad to finally be home.

After another ten hour drive we are finally home with the baby and the dogs! K is letting me know where every speck of fuzz is on the carpet.
Good to be home! Feel free to hit me up in the coming weeks as you transition to being a SAHM. It can be difficult to know what to do all day, and this board was a real help for me.

Thank you! I'm sure I will have lots of questions on how to fill our time and making sure I am still helping her learn while we are home.
I had a bridal shower to go to today so DH decided to go golfing this afternoon. I took DS with me. When I showed up, I was informed that no babies were allowed at the shower (not per the bride but from the hall itself). WTF. One of her bridesmaids had to leave too when she showed up with her 5 month old. I mean it's fine if there are no kids allowed but tell me next time before I make a day of it. So frustrating.

I think my dd must be getting her top teeth. I feel like they've been coming in for forever. But the last number of nights we've totally reverted away from good sleep to taking hours to go down and being up multiple times a night. Whatever it is, I hope it passes quickly.

Bullshit! I would be so pissed! What possible reason could they have for not allowing babies? I've taken my baby to a bar, many times. FFSC?

It was attached to a bar so no one under 21 was allowed in, including several family members. There was even a separate entrance in so you didn't even have to walk into the bar. So stupid.

I've been giving infant Advil at the first sign of pain, and it's helped a lot. We also offer a chilled spoon or teether at that first sign (usually he's playing happily and suddenly cries hysterically after biting on something otherwise innocuous; the other sign is normal cries of tiredness turning to hysteria instantly.) I know we've been lucky, but he usually only needs a second dose at most about 6-8 hours later and then we seem to be over the hump until the next tooth. Once he was still fussy so I gave Tylenol after about an hour. All that said, sleep sucks at our house, too, and DS has been a nap donkey. I finally got in the car a couple days ago and he didn't even make it to the end of the street before falling asleep. Hope DD is through this soon! We're working on a new tooth right now and it sucks!

Thanks! I did give Tylenol tonight (I really should get some Advil) and she finally settled in and went to sleep. Poor baby. Hope your LOs tooth comes in quick too!

I know you didn't mean it this way but I can't help but picture you driving your baby around in the car for a couple of days. I'm tired. That's probably why it's amusing me so much.
