I'm easy going with many things but I'm neurotic about having nothing in the crib for awhile. We gave our older son a toddler sized pillow and light blanket around 18 months. We use sleep sacks.
could you try to replace it with a crocheted type blanket with holes? I would be way less worried about that vs a solid blanket.
i may be over the top with my thinking here
I tried that a while ago but he wanted no part of it. He loves the feel of the swaddle ones. I'm also neurotic about the crib too which is why it's so hard. I may go back to trying the crotched type again and see if he'll tolerate it now.
What about putting just a corner where he can reach and tucking most of it under the mattress? *more stuff to make you worry warning*** The thing that scares me about blankets is him getting tangled and not being able to pull it off his face. (Sorry to add possible additional terror.) we started letting DS sleep with a lovely (a small stuffed owl) at 6 months-ish as a compromise (I was able to ward off DH going full CIO), and it's his BFF. He smooshes it to his face, but I know he could easily turn away if it was hard to breathe. A friend told me she lets her boys sleep with A+A blankets.

That's a good idea. I'll try that and see if that helps. I've tried a small stuffed animal and he hated it.
I know dd would love to snuggle a blanket in her crib but like the rest of you it freaks me out.
Re: merlin suit... we were going to order one because dd loved the swaddle but went cold turkey and I'm so glad we did. I think she would definitely still be sleeping in the merlin suit otherwise. She likes being cozy.
I found dd sleeping on her belly, on her knees with her butt in the air the other morning. I laughed out loud.

That's DS's go to sleeping position. It's so cute!

DD hated the swaddle but when we moved to the crib we tried the suit to stop her from pulling on her hair and waking herself up. Unfortunately she likes it a little too much now.

That is DS's favorite night time pose!
Is it actually called child's pose in yoga? I feel like that's a thing.
Our older son really really likes having stuffed animals to sleep with. His crib is borderline ridiculous but he gets so much comfort from them. I'd also try a small lovely like a small animal.
I don't remember when we went from nothing in the crib to him having an entire clan in there but it was prob around that 18 month time where we were so desperate for him to sleep. There is barely room for him in there now.
