Plus Size Baby Wearing Mommas... Come In!

Can any plus size mommas recommend your favorite carrier?  I had the Baby Bjorn with DD and HATED it.  It just didn't fit comfortably.  I also tried a ring sling and that wasn't happening either.  I really want to wear baby this time around but I seriously value comfort!  Thanks in advance!

I got a carrier for DS I can not remember the name of it but I couldn't wear because of my boobs. Even with it adjusted all the way out it was too tight!! DH could wear it until DS was 4 months.

I really want to be able to baby wear because with a 4 year old I'm gonna need my hands free.

I wish big boobs were my problem and not my belly and ass lol!  Same reasons here, the 4 year is already a handfull so I am going to need to be hands free as much as possible!

I tried an Ergo when babysitting for a friend - so comfy!!! And I'm a size 24 - not just a little bit plus sized.

yeah my belly is there too but my boobs stick out more.

I'm a size 12 and I love my baby k'tan. They come in different sizes so you can find one right for you. DS lived in that thing for a good 3 months when he was a newborn. He loved it and it saved my sanity when all he wanted to do was be held and I needed to eat or do laundry. It was much easier for me to use than a moby. I'm actually looking forward to using it again.

Now that DS is older and bigger I like the ergo when I wear him (which isn't that often, but I'm bringing it to Belize next month and I think we will use the crap out of it there)

I really liked the Ergo for DD once she was 4mos+. I got the Boba wrap for when she was younger, but never really could get comfortable with her in there until she was able to support her head on her own. Both are easily adjustable (I think the Ergo even has a waist extender for the belt if needed). I am normally about a size 14 and have really large boobs.

I've got nothing so far. I have a cheapo carrier with #3 and it worked ok I guess. I could only wear him on the front though and that made it hard for me. I have a belly and boobs so it jugs didn't fit right. I am looking more to areas a wrap kind of carrier that can hopefully be front And back carrier.

I've heard good things about the Tula and some other woven wraps. A lot of people don't care for the moby or stretchy wraps because they can't be used after a certain point because the baby gets too big.

I'll be following along with this one though to see if there are other options.

I'd guess that most wraps would be good because they are adjustable to your body.

I raved about how much I loved the Beco Gemini in another thread. I'm a size 18 (5'3" and 190-ish lbs). It was very comfortable and I had plenty of room in the waist strap.

I used a moby at first and since it's basically just a huge piece of fabric I think that would work at any size.

And I agree the beco Gemini is fantastic. There are so many different holds for the baby and facing out is such a huge plus. The straps adjust a lot.

I found these online. It was a plus size baby wearing website. It kind of seems the ergo and k'tan were the most liked for plus sizes. The biggest issues I've found when researching is most stores carry the average/smaller sizes to try on. I'm not sure if like BRU or BBB would carry larger sizes to try on. I'll be starting to so more research though for sure. I'm glad there are other moms who want to do this also so we can share our findings and what we like. I am also going to see about going to a local parenting resources place. I looked at their website and Facebook page and it says they have all kinds of wraps and carriers you can try on and "borrow" or rent them, plus you can buy from them. They will also help you get into the carrier and show you how it works and all that fun stuff.

I loved my Moby when ds was tiny. I used it constantly. I never got another carrier because dh didn't think we needed one, but that's changing this time. I'll probably get an ergo. You can also get a extender for the ergo, my friend did and said it made the ergo much more comfortable

I used the Moby and the Ergo sport with the waist extender. I could just strap it without the extender, but it definitely fit better with it. I am considering a wrap, but I'm kind of intimidated. I know those come in various lengths.

I had a serious wrap addiction with my first two. Can't wait to rebuild the collection! LOL

I was between a 14 and an 18 during the time I wore my older girls. My DH could wear all of my wraps except one- and he's a big guy.

I loved my mei tei. I swapped it for a buckle tei once the girls got a bit older. It was easier to back carry with it.
We had a ring sling that I liked it when the girls were little. I preferred a 2 shoulder carry once they were bigger/heavier. DH loved that ring sling though and still used it.

I had a hotsling that I honestly think was just slightly too small for me. (I bought it used). DH couldn't wear it at all. I really only used it for the first couple of months with both girls. Based on the ring sling- I don't know if it would have used it much longer even if it did fit slightly bigger.

There are so many fun choices! A lot of WAHMs make & sell slings/wraps so you can find lots of custom options.

I used a Moby when DD was an infant. I had plenty of extra fabric and my husband was able to wear it to, although he resisted. We also had an ergo, which worked fine. It got a little snug front carrying her, but worked fine on the side or the back when she got older. I would say DH was too big to comfortably wear DD in the ergo. I will have to look in to the waist extender for him!

Ive used a baby Bjorn (horrible) & an ergo - I LOVE my ergo! It is comfortable no matter what size I am - I've worn it size 10-18. I can't recommend it enough!

A friend just recommended the Ergo to me. I think she is a size 12ish. Her sister gave her her old one, and I believe her sister is a size 16. She said the fit was awesome for her-very comfortable.

I just tried on my Beco Butterfly 2 I bought resale and it fits me great - size 24, 5'7". And I'll send you a PM with the fb group link!
