Intro & Morning Sickness Question

Hi all, I'm a former July 2011 Knottie, just found my way over here and it seems I'll be joining you!  DH and I are both 28 and after over 2 years TTC we got a BFP on our second round of IVF. EDD is Feb 25, and we were thrilled to find out at our 5wk ultrasound that we're having twins!

I have a definite case of IF brain and each 'normal' step gets me a tiny bit closer to thinking maybe everything will be fine.  Our next US is Monday and I am just hoping that if they've both grown as expected and we can hear two tiny heartbeats that I'll finally be able to relax a smidge.  After that we should get released to my normal OB (and maybe the daily injections can stop).

Now that I'm 6 weeks morning sickness is solidly setting in.  Anyone found any good cures?  I feel okay while I'm eating (saltines and peppermint candy especially) but my morning sickness is an all day thing and I can't just eat all day long...

Morning sickness sucks, and unfortunately the only thing that has helped me so far is to eat constantly, like every two hours or so. I have also been keeping a small snack on my nightstand and eating before I even get out of bed. Also, stay hydrated. Lots of water seems to help as well.

Eating frequently, sucking on ginger candies or lemon drops, diclegis (Unisom/B6 combo), chewing gum. Hope you find some relief soon! And welcome!

I ordered mine from Amazon. I think they're called Gin-Gins, but there are a bunch of different kinds.

Congrats and welcome! Twins are exciting! I keep lots of quick snacks stashed in my purse and I remember that protein is important to keep the nausea at bay longer. Cheese sticks or a half a protein bar or some trail mix may help. The carbs only hold you for so long!

Sipping slowly on a diet dr. pepper helps me when I'm nauseous. I know it's not necessarily the best thing, but if it works it works.

Welcome! I have been eating a half cup of dry cereal before bed, and a half cup first thing in the morning. I also am not into water right now (usually I love it) so I've been adding an ounce of juice to give it some flavor.

Congratulations! Twins...how exciting!
Unisom and B6 before bed has been working really well for me. And definitely snacking all day. The minute I let myself get hungry is when the nausea sneaks back.

Welcome! Staying hydrated and eating every two or so hours has helped. I drink close to 100 oz of water with lemon or lime a day. Also, ginger mints or candied ginger seems to help when I get a major wave of nausea.

I had all day nausea with my last pregnancy. I kept jolly ranchers in good supply and sucked on them as needed.

Welcome!! Eating often has tremendously helped my morning sickness, along with eating only the things I want. The only times I've vomited were when i forced myself to eat something I didn't really want.

My last pregnancy I had all-day nausea. I snacked on plain cheerios pretty much all the time (turns out after a couple dozen Saltines, I really don't like them). I kept a supply of Sea Bands Mama Ginger Lozenges. I get them from CVS, they are kept next to anti-nausea medication (like Dramamine). And, most important, I got a prescription for Diclegis. It took a few days for it to really take effect, but once it did, it was such a huge difference.

Diclegis has been the best for me along with lots of snacking.

As a fellow IVF mom I recommend you come join us over on PAIF (Pregnant After Infertility) if you haven't already. Sometimes you just need other mamas who get the unique perspective of IF brain!

Congrats on the twins! I don't have any advice on the ms but as a fellow IF girl and IVFer just wanted you to know you're not alone in the IF brain. I am feeling the same way as you. Hope you hear those beautiful heartbeats at your ultrasound!

Thanks all! I'll check out the PAIF board for sure. Thankfully the last two days weren't bad MS-wise, I think because we had family parties for the 4th and then my niece's birthday, which resulted in way too much munchie food, but no nausea.

I did have to hand off a beef sandwich to DH today because it was too spicy and when I said that several people at the table looked at me like I was nuts. Guess it wasn't that spicy to anyone without pregnancy taste buds!

Hi! I'm intro-ing on this board today. I'm dealing with a lot of MS, too, kate61487. I've dealt with HG in my first pregnancy, so I'll give you some tips that I think have helped me stave off HG in my last 2 PGs and this one, as well as a warning that if you can't keep anything down for 24 hours, call your OB right away, and if it gets to 48 hours without keeping down anything, including liquids, be prepared for a trip to the ER for a nice IV of fluids. (T&Ps that you don't go through HG!)

Things that I've found helpful:
1. wear loose fitting clothing, including a larger bra band size (JoAnn Fabric and Motherhood maternity both sell bra band extenders for a couple dollars each)
2. eat frequent small snacks, whatever appeals to you
3. avoid strong smells
4. take a nap if you need it (I get much more nauseous when tired)
5. lay down when possible rather than sitting up or reclining to give the stomach room
6. keep busy when possible to take your focus off the nausea
7. I'm trying motion sickness bracelets (generic from Walgreens), though I'm not ready to give them my official recommendation, I did keep most of what I ate down the last 2 days since I started wearing them, and also got a little housework done as opposed to spending Sunday in bed with my puke bucket eating rice
8. I haven't tried the Unisom B6 combo, but my OB recommended it if the motion sickness bands don't work
9. Zofran/Ondansetron is a prescription medication that I took with my other pregnancies to take the edge off HG and MS and keep some food down. It is now re-classified as a Class C drug (slight increase in the risk of birth defects, specifically cleft lip and palette, that may be outweighed by the risk of HG in some circumstances), so if it gets to that point, discuss possible usage with your doctor.
