Does anyone have any recipes they inherited from family members? I wish my mom had been a baker or something so I would have recipes. All of my recipes from my mom involve canned veg, cream of chicken soup, and a casserole dish. They all taste the same.
I tried some of MIL's recipes, but she didn't write them very well. When I follow them to the T, they turn out weird. I can't even ask her because she has had so many strokes that she barely recognizes people anymore.
1 1/2 cups AP flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup sugar( or 3/4 cup depending on how sweet you like it) 1/3 cup melted butter 1 egg 3 ripe bananas
Preheat oven to 350 Mash bananas, add egg, sugar and melted butter mix together. Add dry ingredients and mix, bake for 20 minutes
My bananas were black so I only used 1/2 cup sugar and that was plenty of sweetness
applegrape you can make your own "cream of" soups for recipes it's really easy. I do it all the time and things taste much better. You make a basic bechamel Sauce and then add the flavoring so cream of chicken would need 1-2 boullion cubes crushed and added to the sauce. Cream of mushroom- same bechamel sauce but beforehand sauté some mushrooms in butter low and slow until they are brown and soft then add all the mushrooms and pan juice into the white sauce.
staryb Does DD have a special outfit for the baptism? Also I hope your day continues to be easy breezy.
Of course! She has 2 actually. At the church she'll wear her gorgeous christening gown and bonnet and then she has another cute little dress to wear to the picnic. That's the part I'm most excited for, seeing her all dressed up! She's going to be adorable!!

I keep trying to take a picture of S's baby beaver teeth, but every time I hit the camera button on my phone, he closes his mouth. The kid is asleep. How does he know?

Hi ladies! I just caught up on yesterday and it is wonderful to see (read?) all of the lovely notches.
Yesterday was pretty crazy. I got a call yesterday at around 10 am that my mom was in the hospital. By the time I got there they decided she needed to be rushed into emergency surgery and air evacuated her to a hospital about am hour away by car. They let me ride in the helicopter which would have been awesome under different circumstances. She ended up having about a six hour surgery where they replaced her aortic valve. We didn't get to see her in recovery until after midnight. I had K with me and she did amazing. People in the waiting room kept commenting on how well behaved and what a happy baby she is. My mom is still sedated and on a respirator but the surgery went well and they are hoping to wake her up this morning.
TLDR: mom had high risk emergency surgery yesterday. Everything is looking good so far. K was a champ in the waiting room.

My grandmother has the Bbq recipe that I'm not allowed to share, but it's a 24 hour process, involves pickling spices and is amaze balls!

We're here. We're supposed to go to a bday party today an hour and a half away. I don't wanna. But if I cancel, the kid's mom may get dramatic about it on FB. Annoying.

what is bechamel?
A sauce made with butter flour and milk. I usually do 2 tablespoons of butter, melt that in a pan over medium heat, take 2 tbsp of AP flour and whisk until incorporated and cook stirring constantly for about a minute or 2. Warm up a cup of milk and whisk into the flour butter mixture and stir until thick. You can tell when it's done by take a spoon, dip into the sauce and drag your finger down the back of the spoon, if your finger makes a clean mark through the sauce it's ready! This also works well for cheese sauce too, just add cheese and stir.
