I haven't tried it in a few years, but if I'm remembering right it was pretty bitter. I am hoping this recipe has enough sweet in it to drown out that taste!
Does brewer's yeast have a noticeable taste? I make a green smoothie every morning and I've been adding a tablespoon of ground flax lately for the lactation enhancement, but I don't taste the flax at all. If I put in brewer's yeast as well, is it a very strong taste? is it bitter, sour?
Yes. It has a fermented flavor similar to tempeh. I put some in my oatmeal this morning to try it out. I only could handle taking a couple of bites before sharing it with my dogs. They really liked it, but they also like to eat their own vomit and poop. Maybe if you add it into something with stronger flavors it might taste ok?
I make a smoothie pretty similar. Dark chocolate or vanilla almond milk, oats, flax, banana, nutmeg/cinnamon, vanilla or almond extract, and chia seed. I haven't tried it with brewers yeast but I'm interested.
I made oatmeal with brewers yeast this am and didn't notice a taste difference. I just added a spoonful and I eat my oats with cinnamon, crushed walnuts, raisins, and milk so maybe that masked the taste?
