We are having the same problem. The next size up aren't tight enough around the legs. We've tried pampers and Huggies so far. But I never wake him up to change him. I just can't bring myself to wake a sleeping baby.
We've never had even a single leak with the Pampers Swaddlers. She sleeps between 10-12 hours without a change. (I'm hoping I'm not jinxing myself now!!)

We don't use pampers because of the baby powder in them. I meant to mention that in my OP.
Ahh, alright, then. Just kidding. Please disregard

We use up&up and are starting to have the same issue. I just switched to 3's today, so hopefully that will help. But I've heard of several folks who've had bad luck with boys and Up&Up. Sorry I'm not too helpful. But I'm curious to know what others have to say since we've been leaking at night too (up the tummy, since she started sleeping on her stomach)
I feel like the Up&Up ones are cheap. We were constantly leaking until I went with a size up in Huggies that we were gifted and now we use pampers baby dry up a size from her day diapers. I know you said you don't use pampers but thought I would share anyway.

This exactly! Since December 8th he's gone 12 hours with no leaked in pampers swaddlers sensitive. ::knocks wood:: We use up and up/ target diapers all day and switch to pampers at night. I love target diapers, but both DH and I have noticed that they just don't hold as much as pampers.
ETA: just saw that you don't use pampers, but maybe you'd be ok with the sensitive ones? Also, I don't care for honest co diapers. I'd probably go with a cloth diaper cover over your diaper of choice.
Have you tried a nighttime diaper? I just saw some Luvs that said something about nighttime leak guard something or other, I know Pampers has a night version (I avoid Pampers too), maybe there's something like that that would work for you? We get occasional leaks in the morning but I don't change her overnight so I'm not a huge help.
I've also heard of inserts you can use for extra absorbency. I don't know where to get them or if they're expensive, though.
I don't know about the Pampers sensitive but we use Swaddlers during the day and Baby Dry overnight protection at night. 12 hrs...tons of pee, no leaks! Would the baby powder bother you if it were just overnight? I accidentally put a Swaddlers through the washing machine one time and it didn't come apart...I was amazed!
We only use Up&Up diapers for both the boys. J is in the largest size so there is nothing I can do if he has leaks, but that is rare. Max started waking up soaking wet every night so I just moved him up a size and I don't have the problem anymore. He is in a diaper for 12 hours typically and nurses throughout the night. I've never had any real issues with the Up&Up diapers. But with J I used Huggies Pure and Natural and they could hold a lot of pee.

Honest diapers have worked great for us. She started leaking at night and I realized she needed the next size up, but we still had a few size one packs from the bundle. Customer service emailed us a shipping label and exchanged them no problem. Now she never leaks
I had this problem with DD for a few months when she was younger. We tried several different diaper brands and kept having leaks so we started putting two diapers on her at night. We only had to do this for about two months and then she was able to go back to using just one.

I use the Luvs with 12 hour night guard leak protection and have never had an issue and he has already slept 13 hours in the same diaper. (However normally we will change him once throughout the night.)
These are cheaper than the other name brands and you can get them through Amazon Mom subscription program for even cheaper than at most stores (free shipping). Sorry DoesItComeInPink? they do have baby powder on them. Is your LO allergic?
mimsy I used the doubles, tried hemp, and bought Alva baby bamboo. She pisses thru everything it seems. ?
Do you have any prefolds? You could try wrapping it around an insert.
Clotheez prefolds are amazing. Love them!!!
For anyone wanting to try a cover, Thirsties Duo Wraps are great, a size 2 is good from about 15 lbs through potty training, and I have 3 because they are for nighttime only. You can also let them air dry and use them twice.
