How do you put your sleeping baby down into their crib? I've tried a bunch of things the past few months and he wakes up the second I put him down. I've also tried patting his tummy when he's in his crib to avoid the transfer...40 min of patting/shhh and he napped 12 min! CIO for naps had us both in tears. Also, he won't nap in his swing.
I'm starting to think maybe I should lay him in my bed for naps. He will cry because he wants to be cradled in my arms, but maybe I can comfort him enough being next to him and then sneak away once he's asleep.
Or, maybe I just keep holding him and eventually he will only be napping once a day? Ha!
At night, he goes down awake and sleeps all night. This is only a nap problem.
Is there a trick to this nap thing I'm missing as a FTM?

I wish I could tell you. I'm in your boat. Only she won't fall asleep in my arms either. We have been doing CIO for naps, but the duration which she cries has not been decreasing, and often times she sleeps for less time than she spent crying. But the only other thing is the car seat, and I just can't drive around 3-4 times a day just to get the baby to sleep. I cannot.

For naps... we typically have to cover LO's eyes as soon as we put her down asleep in her crib, so I will hold her for ~5 mins asleep then set her down gently, then I will simultaneously pat her belly and cover her eyes with my other hand. I was noticing her eyes would open when she hit the crib and I think seeing a face was too stimulating. I will then cover her eyes and pat until her eyes close again... sometimes that happens right away, sometimes that takes a couple minutes. GL!
Sometimes I can lay her on the floor more easily... I don't think it's a good long-term solution but I can lay down a blanket and very gradually move my arms out from under her. I've only resorted to that a few times though.
Basically I try to hold just her head with one hand, support her weight with the other, and make my movements as slow and gradual as possible. Sometimes nothing works. Sometimes I think we're good and she opens her eyes about 90 seconds later. I don't like CIO and she's so stubborn I don't think it would really work anyways. Laying him in your bed might work until he gets too mobile. I wish someone had a magic trick for this.
My LO naps in his crib. I make sure he is in the same bedtime swaddling that he is in at night. Basically arms out swaddle. I turn on his white noise. I place him in the crib while he is still awake but showing signs of being tired. When I first put him down, he often will move his head back and forth while his arms are all over the place. I just place my hand on his chest and shoulders (stilling his arms) and my other hand I'll use to stroke his hair. I will often graze my hand over his eyelid, as well, to kind of shut them. While I am doing this I also lean in close to him and do a gentle shushing. Anyway, I do this for 2 or 3 minutes and he will become still and his eyes will close. Once that happens I back away and sit nearby in case he wakes suddenly. After another few more minutes of no waking, I leave him alone to nap. It works for me.

Same here! Ours will sleep longest at night, but take little "cat naps" during the day. She's starting to get too big for her RNP, and I don't want to put her down in her crib for naps because I want the crib to be associated with "bedtime". One day we'll unlock the secret =)
Might sound silly but I actually change into long sleeved smooth shirts with really loose collar. My Gap favorites t-shirts are the best. The collar is so loose I can easily nurse by yanking it down. When it's time to put him in the crib I find the smooth fabric allows me to slide my arm out from under his head /neck with minimal tug/disruption. Maybe worth a try?

At night he usually isn't put down until he is out. During the day I usually just let him sleep on me and read my book/play video games. Occaisionally he gets too "must look at everything even though I've seen it a bajillion times" so we lay down together on the bed in the dark and if he falls asleep and I don't I can get up and leave him in the middle of my bed for a decent nap. My feelings are: he sleeps through the night so he doesn't have any sleep crutches AND this phase of their lives is so short I want to experience all of it - if that means laundry doesn't get done or our house is a little messy - so be it One day I will wish for my boy to be small enough to be back in my arms asleep so I'm trying to enjoy it now, while it lasts. I'm no help either lol
Someone shared this on TB and it really helped me understand sleep associations, in this case your arms. I will link to 101 pt 1 but you should read the other three as well.
