Everything is too Pinterest-y now. There is way too much pressure for over-the-top cutesy everything. Baby showers, birthday parties, nurseries. DNW any of that business.

UO: I think people take the "no drinking in the first trimester" too literally and go to a hysterical level with it. I take it to mean it's better to wait to have glass of wine at a time until second trimester if you're going to do that, not LITERALLY ONE SIP OF ALCOHOL ANYTIME IN FIRST TRI IS FUCKING CRAZY.
I have been having a sip of MH's beer/wine about once a week since finding out and I do not feel worried about the absolutely miniscule amount of alcohol in a single swallow of beer or wine, which only have 5-10% ABV to begin with. But people are side-eyeing me anyway, because pregnant ladies' bodies are, of course, a funzone of behavior policing.
I dont understand the need for over-the-top gender reveal parties. If you want to do something small with your family, that's cool. But inviting lots of friends and making it a big thing? NO.

I'll go one further: I don't understand having a special freaking party just to reveal the baby's sex. If you do it at your baby shower in combination with that party, fine. But a whole party just to reveal which shape your baby's genitals are while you refer to "sex" incorrectly as "gender"? NERP.

Definitely seems gift grabby too
I'll take it a step further.... unless you have a big age gap between kids there is no need for a "sprinkle"

This is in response to my classy spit-take from last night, isn't it? ISN'T IT?!

On that note, why must we start forcing gender stereotypes on our babies before they're even born?? I saw pictures from the worst gender-reveal party last week.. friend of a friend had every awful stereotype imaginable on this big sign..

What will it be???
PINK or BLUE?
SPARKLES or SPORTS?
DOLLS or DINOSAURS?
FRILLY or FUN-LOVING?
I think the worst is when they do it as careers. "What will it be, a teacher or a police officer?!" Yes, because only women can be teachers and only men can be police officers. WTF.
As a female scientist I take issues with gender role career associations.

Didn't know little girls can't love fun.
Also my kid's nursery will be dragon/castle themed regardless of sex. Lady Knights for the fucking win.

This drives me insane. Thankfully my friends all have like a minimum of 4 kids, so I've never been to a single one.

My SIL had a gender reveal party after she told everyone the sex of the baby. Not only did they cut into a cake to "find out," they also popped a balloon that had blue confetti. I guess they thought they would get a different result? It was all so backwards and annoying. I think they did it to have something cute to post on Facebook.

I don't get why we can't just be like Yay!!! It's a boy!!!
I admit we were planning something cutesey last time for the kids. We thought I'd make a cake for after dinner and it would be pink or blue on the inside. My parents were coming over too., like they do all the time. I just thought it might be memorable.
But parties? Invites and gifts? Decorations?
No. Just no. But hey! Team green, so it's n/a. You can bring me balloons in the hospital though. That would be nice, and I could get a neat Big Sis balloon for DD2. I'm digging this idea! She loves balloons.
