My doctor diagnosed me with a uti and gave me antibiotics. The problem with that is that they make me so sick that fifteen minutes later I throw it back up again. I don't know if any of the actual medicine is making it into my system. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it when the office opens tomorrow, but I wanted to see if you ladies had any suggestions or thoughts.
Are you able to take it right before you go to bed? I know lots of women who do that with their prenatal vitamins when their morning sickness was at it's worst.

I have to take it twice a day with food so I normally take it with breakfast and dinner. I might try taking it before bed with a snack, but I don't like to eat before bed cause it makes me have crazy dreams haha
You're tapping into my inner drug rep...did they give you macrobid or a generic form? You're probably absorbing a little, if you're only keeping it down for 15 minutes. Sometimes the generic formulation of a drug just doesn't work as well (seeing that the FDA approves 80-125% bioavailability) or can be flat out intolerable. Ask about trying from another generic manufacturer or getting the brand, if possible. Also don't forget to add some yogurt into your diet each day so you don't earn yourself a yeast infection too. Super fun times. Feel better.

It's generic macrobid. If I want to get the name brand I would have to pay full price for it because my insurance only pays for generic stuff. also, I'm definitely eating yogurt. It's one if the few things my tummy can handle these days

All generic manufacturers are not created equal--some make solid products, whereas others don't. Find out who made what you have and find another pharmacy that has a different source...or maybe your current pharmacy may be able to get you product made by a different company. Either way, keep trying! I hope you're not uncomfortable in the meantime.
PS I know what I'm saying it's weird...it's the same drug, right? Nope. It's the same active ingredient. The formulation of the pill is different and that is what makes the difference in tolerability. Good luck.
Did you see the capsule in what you threw up? Most medications take ~15-30 minutes to be absorbed, so throwing up right at 15 minutes is a little early. But if you didn't actually throw up the capsule then it could be staying down and you could be absorbing it. I'd also do what PPs suggested and take the nighttime dose at bedtime with a little snack. It may give you weird dreams but it's only for a week or so. You could also take it with an anti-nausea medication. Certain medications that are highly nauseating are routinely administered that way to prevent you from throwing it right back up.
