With my daughter, we sort of discussed names but dh wasn't into it much. Then after we found out it was a girl, we quickly narrowed it down to 2 names and it stayed that way until just before she was born when I added a third name. We didn't make the final decision until after she was born and I actually much prefer it that way. I got to look at her and figure out what I thought would suit her better.
This time we haven't really even mentioned names. I am kind of dreading having to figure a name out. I feel like it is much harder this time around since I already have a kid with a great name. Now I have to find one (or really a couple) that are equally as great. DH has his mind set on Damien for a boy and I liked it at first (years ago before we even had kids) but now I really don't like it. For that reason, I am kind of hoping for a girl. I will find out sometime this week or next whether we have to start thinking of boy or girl names.

DH and I were team green last time so we already have our girl name (Sydney Marie). We can't come up with a boy name. (So please people share yours!). We struggled with DS name. I ended up asking for ideas on the bump, someone suggested his name (Isaac) and I fell in love. So I guess what I'm saying is.... Help me name my kid in case I'm having another boy. So far we have Dylan, Ethan and Tristan on our list. I am in love with Elliot but DH is not on board. I want to work on him though.

I had Isaac on my list, but DH vetoed it. Other names I have: Theodore (nn Theo), Jack, Charles (nn Charlie), Arthur, Henry
We have a really tough last name that kinda limits name choices. DH and I have a boys name we agree on, Xavier. Girls names not so much. He doesn't really want to discuss them at all, and when we do he comes up with names that sound nice in a french/west african accent, but not so much with an "american" accent. Once we have the anatomy scan we will start discussing.

yogisews I feel the same about picking a name this time around. DS name suited him perfectly and I love it, and I feel like options I'm considering so far don't live up.
Regarding Beaux, I like the x. I think the cultural value is neat, and I don't think it's so far off to draw side-eyes.
My husband actually came up with our boy name. Elijah Douglas. Douglas was my fathers name who passed away from ALS about eight years ago. I told Dh I didn't want it as a first name and I just love Elijah. But with girl names we can never agree. I love Lilian Mae (Mae is my paternal grandmothers middle name and my cousin's who passed away last year from cervical cancer). But he's all wishy washy about it.

I like Ethan or Elliot. I think either would go nicely with Isaac.
abvintage Do what feels right! I like the name, but probably wouldn't choose the X. However, I understand the heritage part. Either way, he will have a good strong southern name!
DH loves Henry for a boy. I really like it too, but living in the south I worry people will try to call him Hank. I hate Hank. I can't think of a boy name I like better, so it will probably end up Henry if we have a boy. For a girl, we both love Willow and River. Willow is my fav, but the ex wife named my stepson's dog Willow. It may steer me away. Her middle name will be Anneral for my great grandmother whom I loved deeply.
DH actually chose and fought for DD's name. When SIL was born in 1991, it was supposed to be her name but GMIL hated it so much that MIL reluctantly changed her mind. DH was 4 at the time and grew up wanting his daughter to be Athena since it was supposed to be his sister's name. He told me this when we first started dating and I was meh about it, but by the time we actually had a DD 7 years later I couldn't imagine her being anything else. I understand how STMs are feeling about the second name needing to "live up to" the first. Athena is such a strong choice, I can't just throw a name on DS or DD2 because "oh, that's kind of cute."

abvintage - I love the name Beaux (spelled either way)! Love it.
DH and I had a lot of fun coming up with names the first time around. We love our daughter's dame (Cora) and it really suits her, but it's a hard one for siblings.
So far, we're thinking Bennett for a boy. My husband prefers Grayson, and I prefer Desmond, but we both like Bennett more than each other's favourite and it goes well with our difficult boy's middle name (Dallas after my FIL. Desmond Dallas obviously doesn't work, which is why I'm giving up).
We're thinking Penelope June for a girl. I cannot believe that I've finally pulled him to my side for Penelope, and he's still a bit on the fence, but he's in love with the nickname Penny. We also loved the name Charlotte, but when we toured a preschool, there was at least one in each class, and while I'm not looking for a name that no one has, I don't want it to be that commonplace either. I'd love to use a flower name (like mine) but the only one I really like is Violet, and DH isn't keen on that. Plus I think Penny/Penelope pairs really well with Cora.
Aww your husbands are so sweet. My hilarious DH says he wants to name the baby "deadpool", like the comic character. He hasn't reached the point of taking anything seriously, and I think we have a while yet before he will, lol.

My husband feels like he is supposed to name both babies. He was set on our first child's first name and is set on naming this child also. I told him he can choose the middle name this time and I choose the first name. I am not budging
Yep. Mine. If it's a boy we are going with Beaux. He wants it as a tribute to my Louisiana heritage. To be honest, Beaux is actually spelled correctly (it's just the plural masculine form) but to people who don't speak French or have a cajun heritage I think it's going to come off very weird. I love the name Beau but he will not budge on the spelling. I think people might find it trashy, like a made up spelling, if they are not familiar with the cultural reference. He will not budge though.
He gave on my girl name when I changed the proposed spelling to the French version too so I'm beginning to think he just has a thing for French names. Men are weird about names. We talked forever about name and our list literally is comprised of 1 male name and 2 female names. Mainly because he just doesn't like anything I like and vice versa.
IDK, what do you guys think about the name Beaux? You know I can handle the flames.
I wouldn't call it silly to use the 'x' at the end. I'm from the sound and get the heritage. BUT, I think you son will be dealing with that his entire life. Odds are, it's going to get annoying with all the misspellings and even mispronouciations from people that don't recognize it. I love the name. And the meaning you have behind it. But I'd go with Beau just for his little sake.
My only naming advice as a BTDT is this: I have a Jacob that we call Jake. Never thought a thing about it since both names are so traditional. But you'd be amazed at how much, even now, he's called Jacob some places. He doesn't answer to it (he's two) and its a pain. I've simply learned that I'll do the exact name I want next time and skip the nicknames.
We love traditional names. And we'd really like to name a girl after my grandmother, Elizabeth. Though I'm not the hugest fan of that so I think we'll shorten it to Eliza Grace. Boys name so far is Ryan James.
I'm obsessed with music and hubs is a musician, so we both settled on the name Melody right away. He really liked "Melody Valentine" until I googled it and found out that it was the name of a pussycat, as in Josie and the Pussycats, which neither of us knew. Oops. We then decided on Melody Skye, instead. And for a boy, it's always been Jack Wyatt. abvintage I love Beaux!
H surprised me on his pick for a girl name. Backstory: I had this perfect dog. She would hunt, fish, walk, guard, fetch, and was just perfect for me. I had to put her down on memorial day this year. Her name was Sadie, and she was always my Sadie girl. H said a couple weeks ago, "If we have a girl, you will get you Sadie Girl back. " So our girl name is Sadie. We are debating on boy names, but H is leaning towards the names Dale, Richard, and Bruce. Bruce is my favorite, but Dale and Richard are HARD nos for me.
abvintage I like Beau for a name, and can see both spellings being a pain depending on where you live. I know that when coaching little league I had a Beau on my team and for the life of him, our announcer couldn't get it right.

Fingers crossed we stick to these!
Although that may be true at 2, it definitely isn't as they get older. My name is 3 syllables and as a kid it always got shortened so when my mom had my sister instead of naming her Theresa she named her Terri. Fast forward to now and I love having my nickname among friends and my full name that I use for work. My sister HATES that she feels she doesn't have a real name.
I am super eager to start discussing names but my H is reluctant. He wants us to be further along first . I am, of course, day dreaming frequently ! I hope he has more input this time. I chose our son's name, he just agreed.
I get to see all of the popular name trends because we have a pediatric clinic attached to the urgent care I work at . I schedule a lot of newborn appointments.
DH and I have never really had too many conversations about names....and yes, we already have 3 kids!!! He has never had much input and just tells me if he likes something I suggest. We have completely different naming styles so he doesn't come up with anything aside from popular 80's names. Our big dilemma this time is we have gotten ourselves in a trend. Me and my DH have C and L names. My DS has a C name (on purpose), my DD has a C name ( not on purpose), and my DS has a L name (on purpose). We weren't planning a fourth so didn't think too much about this with our last. Now I feel like we need another L name. I have a few boys names I like, but not loving any girls names. What are your thoughts ladies?! Do I need an L name or not?

If there is an L name you love than sure, I think more important is to pick a name you like that flows with your last name and works with the other 3. Would it be too much to ask what the other 3 are?

i too am confused on the plural part. I wouldn't side eye it though with the x, but would automatically spell it without. As long as you are okay having to spell and correct people, do which one you like best!

Sure! Here are my 3 I have now. Caden (yes I know, but he was named way before the "Aden" trend started) Callie Lathan

You could go on Nameberry and search names by L. If something speaks to you, great. If not, you can branch out of the L's and search your current children's names, then click on the "similar names" tab. I've spent many hours on Nameberry, looking up names by specific meaning, and we have settled on our names now. It's a pretty useful name site.
