I was at a children's consignment store today and there is a little play area that is surrounded by a half wall for kids to play in. I was browsing near it and heard a thump and then the little girl in there started crying. She was by herself and no one came over so I went to check to make sure she was ok. She seemed fine just a little shook up and sad. I stayed for a few moments to cheer her up (just chit chatting, I didn't go in the enclosure or pick her up) but her mom came up and gave me the dirtiest look. She completely ignored me and grabbed her kid. Was I out of line? I understand not wanting strangers to be around your kids but I dont know what I should have done differently. It didn't feel right to ignore the child. Idk, I am feeling really bad about what happened and wanted to get some honest input from other moms.
I don't think you were out of line at all. I think any mom would have gone over to check if the child was ok. If that mom was so concerned about someone going near her daughter, she probably shouldn't have left her alone like that.
See what you get for showing basic humanity, Squirm?
I'm with ciaomama. If no other grown up was around, I would have checked to make sure the child was okay. I wouldn't have been able to not at least check. Because you never know.
I would have done the exact same thing as you did. If I were the child's mother, I would have thanked you. Why are people so miserable and rude sometimes??
Thanks, everyone! I didn't get any notifications so just seeing this. I feel better about it after reading your thoughts. It was just so awkward and I felt so guilty even though I hadn't meant to upset her. Also didn't help that I was then behind her in line... And then parked next to her in the lot. I'm sure she thought I was following her. I also didn't have lo with me so idk if that made me look more suspect. Or maybe my rbf set off her rbf. We may never know.
It just really got to me! I need to brush it off but I'm much more the perseverate type. Need to replay the scene ad infinitum to view from all angles. This is what I get for insisting lo needed snow boots for the winter photo op coming!
