I searched and read about the moving up bedtime poll when naps are skipped but was surprised to read some comments that made it seem to be normal/regular for some of our LOs to not nap? DD1 has only taken one good nap the past week and it was at her grandmom's house. The other days have been no nap at all & one 30 min nap another day. Since I am SAH and have a 4 week old I really want a scheduled naptime. We've even taken her on walks and to park the past two mornings and she's still ends up screaming when we lay her down. She is cutting molars so should I just expect this until that is over? Or could she really be done with naps?? Also, how do you handle it when tantrums are being thrown in the crib? Thanks.
A lot of our LOs seemed to drop their nap around the 18 month sleep regression. We've been battling illness here for the last week so it's hard to say if Madeline is officially napping again or it was just from being sick. My niece dropped her nap for good around 17 months, so it's totally possible that she may be done napping. If that's the case, I would have a scheduled "quiet time" either in her crib with some books and quiet toys, or if that doesn't work then maybe somewhere with you to start (so she gets used to it) doing a quiet activity. Once she understands the routine, you can probably leave her a little longer doing her quiet time activity to do whatever you need to get done during that down time. If you allow screen time, I would recommend "quiet time" as the time of day she gets to watch one of her shows. If not, colouring, reading, puzzles are all good options.
We mostly still do a nap. Some days we get a half hour, some days we get nada. I have found that if I sit next to her on the bed I'll get an hour maybe two! I don't know how practical it is for you to try that though. Bonus for me though is that sometimes I doze off too
I take what I can get these days. Having a 9 week old keeps me from being able to get the 18 month old to nap consistently!
I think I'm going to have to have this outlook from now on in order to not let myself be upset about no naps. If she naps: great! If she doesn't: it is what it is.

We haven't had a nap in a week . Before that we had a few weeks of fighting naps and every other day naps. She honestly doesn't even seem tired or cranky when she doesn't nap. We watch part of a movie in bed for some quiet time in the afternoon. It sucks I'm pregnant and oh so tired.
She gets 12 hours a sleep at night max but that includes a wake up. I worry she doesn't sleep enough but she seems fine.
Azeem still naps regularly for about 2hrs. I didn't know so many were dropping their nap times already!
Wow, I'm surprised by all those dropping naps too.
We still get daily naps here. It's usually 1.5-2 hours at daycare, and anywhere from .5-1.5 hours at home on weekends. All the toddlers in daycare still nap in B's room. It goes from 18 months to 3 years, so I'm hoping he'll at least keep his naps until he's 3.

I would literally cry if M didn't take naps anymore. I look forward to those 2-3 hours of peace and quiet. I think my sleep training really helped with naps. Cause around 1:30-2:00 every day I put her down. Some days she rolls around for longer, but usually after about 15-20 min she's asleep. And sleeps for 1.5-3 hours, depending on how early she got up and what we did that morning.
So adding to my #crib4lyfe status -- #naps4lyfe over here too. Lol

Same here! She goes down at 12 or 12:30 and naps for about 2 hours, sometimes 2.5 I don't think they are supposed to drop naps until 3 or 3.5, so definitely keep trying! I also wonder if daycare helps her keep a good nap schedule. She naps well there like 99% of the time.

I have been literally crying nursemommy13 I guess I should be thankful she didn't drop the nap when I was still pregnant and having to rest so much myself. Remember the days of 2 naps a day?? Pure bliss.

I used to get so tense trying to get E to sleep so that M would sleep that I think it was keeping everyone awake. Now we have a routine: lunch and a movie. I close the blinds and M sits in her sesame street chair while I feed E. If she falls asleep great, I move her to the couch and hope she sleeps for a while. If she doesn't, then we shut off the movie and go to her playroom!

I will cry so much the day DD stops napping. I hope this is just a temporary phase your LO is going through. At daycare, all the kids in the toddler room through the pre-k 4 nap from 1-3 (or longer if they don't wake up), so I try to be consistent with that at home. I plan to make her have quiet time during that time if she stops napping.
When D wakes up too soon from his nap I go in and snuggle with him. If he closes his eyes I put him back in the crib and rub his back until he falls asleep. This has been happening a lot lately

Grayson hasn't had a nap in nearly 3 weeks. We try to do a quiet time everyday where he sits with one of us and watches cartoons. Sometimes this only lasts 20 minutes and other times it's longer. I'm fine with it if he's done with naps. Who knows, these kids are so unpredictable, that he might start napping again in a few months lol
I'm not saying it's impossible... but... I think that many parents "give up" on the nap after a certain time for fighting it, and less so that the kids are really ready to stop napping.
We do quiet time. She rolls around for a few minutes... sometimes as much as 20, and then naps for an hour or more.
.
I definitely haven't given up. I try everyday still but it's been a week without a nap. And three weeks before that of fighting nap hell and naps every other or few days. I don't think the tantrums are necessary because she has never slept after she screams like that. So when I realize she's not sleeping then we get up and later we watch a movie and snuggle. I don't want her to associate not napping with a movie and snuggles.
It could be a phase she's going through. Maybe with the new baby she's not wanting to nap?
When DD was born, DS just turned 2, and his naps got all messed up. It seemed like he didn't want to miss anything and things were different with DD around. It took about a month or so for his naps to get better when we figured out a routine. It seemed like once I stopped stressing about it, then he started napping again. We would all cuddle and watch cartoons and if he fell asleep, great! If not, he was at least quiet so DD could nap.
DS is 3 1/2 and doesn't nap anymore and DD naps for about an hour to an hour and a half. I find if DS is quiet she'll nap longer, but that doesn't happen too often.

I hope she starts napping again for you!
I do think she is afraid she is going to miss out on things with little sister. We have never tried napping/falling asleep outside her room/crib (now that she is toddler). So I may try that next!
