But not the way I planned.
Alex.is Mor.gan came in to this world very very quickly. I saw my ob for my 39 week appointment around 8am and was excited to hear I had actually made some progress. I was 50% and 3cm. I knew that didn't mean anything but it nice to hear that my body actually started doing something. He stripped my membranes (I had a very traumatic first delivery which included extended pushing and forceps) so we both didn't want me to go past my due date. I was contracting all day but nothing major. Around 8pm I decided that they were consistent enough that I should start keeping tract. I was having them about 3-5 mins apart without stoping for an hour and half. I had also lost my mucous plug. I called the on call and they said to stay at home until they became more unbearable or my water broke. I was a little nervous bc I am gbs+, but they assured me on rare occasions they don't get the abx in its not such a big deal. Around 1230 they were getting more intense and I felt like I was leaking. I got to the hospital around 1, and they checked me, I was still at 3, 60% and they said I could either stay and walk around or go home and come back bc I wasn't in active labor. We opted to stay and walk. We walked for about 40 mins and my contractions were getting closer and closer and I was literally not getting any break. At 330 they made the call to admit me, I was at 5 and 100%. I got to my room at 350, and I was in tears, I couldn't catch my breath the contractions were literally one on top of the other. There wasn't even a 5 second break. I would peak and another one would start. I was bawling. I had pain radiating down my legs. It was crazy. They were trying to get an iv in and get anesthesia there. Anesthesia showed up and I sat up to get my epidural in, my water broke-- there was meconium in the water, and I literally felt the need to push. They managed to check me and I was 9.5, this was 415. I made them grab my husband. They were calling for NICU and the attending. It felt like they were trying to grab who ever was walking outside the door. Alexis was born at 445, she cried right away but they were concerned about her color. She looked pale. It was so crazy. She had a short cord. She ended up going to the NICU for fluids and monitoring, was there for about 5 hours. My husband and I are shell shocked with how quickly everything happened. Last time I pushed for longer than this labor was. She's been doing great. We are nursing with a shield but no far no issues. I'm pumping to make sure I can establish a supple and it looks like my milk is already coming in. I'm not sure I would do med free again but let me tell you, recovery has been amazing. I was up and walking 10 mins after I delivered and I feel great today.
Pictures for those who stuck around and read the whole thing.
