Welp...doc called to confirm today that I definitely have gestational diabetes and I may have full blown diabetes but need to do more labs.
I'm glad for the early diagnosis so that it can be treated and hopefully mean baby is ok too but it was a lot earlier than most women are tested and im hoping it's just GD and won't be a lifetime of it. Ugh.
Anyone else had GD with past pregnancies? I've googled, I'll work through the details of necessary treatment with my doc, but... commiserate? Any tips or things I should know that a doc might not tell me?
ETA: I'll have a ton of questions for the doc but any you can think of that might not be so obvious?

So sorry to hear about the GD. It's always a bit of a shock to find out you have it.
I had GD with my DD and when I first found out I was a wreck. I felt like I'd let her down for some reason. There were many tears on my midwifes shoulder.
But after the initial shock it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was a bit of a pain having to plan ahead with food and keeping track of testing at the right time but it just became routine after the first few weeks. The extra appointments were also a bit of a nuisance for me as we live an hour from the hospital where the appointments were but on the plus side the extra scans were welcomed!
Induction is a given here, with GD. I don't know if it is the same where you are. And I was asked to collect colostrum for months ahead of the birth to store in case baby's blood sugars dropped and she needed the colostrum with the higher sugar content. That was an adventure! Hubby collecting tiny drops from my boobs every night will I squeezed and pumped to get it out. Lol!
I haven't been diagnosed yet, but did my first GTT (2 hours) yesterday due to a high A1c count. This is totally new as I have not have GD with my prior pregnancies. I will find out tomorrow, so I may be right there with you!
Thanks all for making me feel a bit better about it! Traveling this week has made it difficult to find something I want for breakfast that is also allowed/recommended but I have an appt with the diabetes educators on tuesday and am looking forward to making sense of things. minae01 keep me posted! My A1C is this weekend so we may be GDM buddies.
My numbers came back good, so no GD for me at this moment. How did they determine you had GD so early? Did you do a glucose test? I hope your A1c is nice and low!
minae01 she ordered a 1-hr GTT simply because of my weight. I gained a lot with DD and never lost really any of it despite working my ass off (so discouraging). I failed that GTT miserably so she's following up to see my A1C to determine if I'm actually diabetic or just GD. I'm so glad your labs came back good and you don't have it right now!
tLex thanks! I'm literally going to make a list of things I should eat and things I shouldn't. If I keep the good lost visible, I'll tend to crave things on it (power of suggestion when I'm pregnant). They said I'll have weekly appts at first then further apart depending on how I'm doing. I'm going to make the, crazy with questions but I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can for this baby.
