DS took a dive off the bed... then and now!

A few months ago, can't remember exactly when, but DS crawled his way off the bed falling head first on the carpet.  I wasn't home at the time but my DW called me to let me know, and I proceeded to freak out a little bit (okay maybe a lot!) before my wife calmed me and re-assured me that DS was just fine.  

Fast forward to today.  DS walks right off the bed after distracting DW by chucking her phone behind the bed; also taking a head first dive.  DW also called me about this but I was much more calm and level headed, simply asking, calmly, he ok? and how does he look?

DS is 10 months in less than a week and between that first nose dive and this one I have learned a lot about the little guy.  Mostly that he's pretty darn tough!  And although my main concern was not necessarily the impact, but how his landing on his head may possibly affect his neck, I knew in all likelihoodhe was just fine!  He has taken a fall on harder surface and bounced right back, he also has proven very early in his life that he has a strong neck, even before tummy time exercises became part of his routine.  

I can see my evolution as a dad and while I was doing the most worrying just a couple months ago, I have now chilled out a bit.  I have learned what all you more experienced dads (and moms) already know, this will happen and you just gotta roll with it!  One day I will share with DS about all the times he nose dived off the bed and just laugh!

Sounds like G is having fun messing with you! Luckily they are resilient. Seems like they are crawling off, falling off, or rolling off something all the time. Nothing high or anything, but they know that exact moment you turn your head just a bit too far and go for it.

Glad you are rolling with it. The worry can be intense. And then if you don't react they just look up and laugh. Little jerk...you are going to give me a heart attack and then just laugh about it?

We have one of those small trampolines in the playroom. The little one (9mo) loves climbing up on it, chewing on the bar, then drops to his butt and rolls head first those 4-6 inches onto the carpet. He gets pissed if you stop him from tumbling down. He's almost mastered somersaulting from it.

At first I would freak out sprinting over to get my hands under him. But now I take videos

The new way DS is trying to induce me into a panic is during bathtime! Up until recently he was content with playing with his bath toys while sitting and splashing up a storm. Now he wants to walk around, put his toys on the ledge (and then fling them in the tub one by one) and mess with the faucet.

He won't stay still when I try to bathe him and seems to want to wiggle around the most when he's all lathered up and slippery! Any pointers?!

I've started soaping and shampooing right away...then say play my little friend. It does nothing to curb bath shenanigans but at least when he gets to the point he doesn't care if he bangs his head off the faucet or drowned I can scoop him up and he's clean.

Ive found that he loves to mimic and so if pour water on his head and hand him the cup, I buy myself about ten seconds of soap and rinse time as he tries to fill the cup and dump it on himself. That's really all I got. That and someday he'll grow out of it.

Things are getting better as far as bathing little one. DW found a plastic bath caddy which holds his bath toys and other things. It lays across the bath so it keeps him in a smaller space and makes it easier for me to manage him. He's also more interested in playing with his toys and less standing and walking.

That's cool things are getting better.

The other day DS2 slipped in the bathroom after his bath and smacked his head off the corner of the tile. DW was freakin out as she watched the knob form in front of her eyes. I ran upstairs and DS stopped crying as soon as we picked him up. Totally scary. After ice and administering a field TBI exam little man was cleared for play. He acted like nothing happened. The psychologist in me restricted his screen time (not that he watches TV but his exposure to flickering lights) and kept things quiet for him. He was pissed. He wanted to play and go at it hard like usual. It's scary being a parent and kids don't even get it...jerks.
