This is more of a logistical question... Wondering what your plans are to get BM to day care. I have been freezing a bag each day. I assume I should start with oldest and thaw out the night before. Thinking I would just combine bags the next day in a separate bottle for the day care to ration out?? What has worked for you guys or what are you planning to do?
^^ I did what Calvin said. IMO, it doesn't make sense to freeze fresh milk if I can just send it, so I prefer to keep my freezer stash as backup & send the fresh stuff for the next day. Plus, it was just easier for me to pump directly into the bottles, throw a nipple & cap on there and the bottles were ready to go for the next day. I also wasn't wasting all those storage bags. if I had excess milk, I just froze it.
Calvinfoster- you should be a life coach lol. Makes perfect sense. I have a reserve going in the freezer because I travel a lot for work so my LC said to have as much as 100 ounces saved. I like the idea of using for just traveling or date nights etc. Thanks!
related question..,what bottles do you all use for giving your pumped milk?
I used Medela bottles since that is the pump I used & I could just pump directly into them. And luckily DS liked them Hopefully this baby isn't picky either!

Much like others, I brought/plan to bring fresh milk in prepared bottles (we use glass Evenflo which I often pump into and store fresh in, and some plastic Avent). Our daycare also asks for some sort of "back up" so I also brought in a few bags of frozen that they kept in their freezer.
Sort of related question: When you ladies pump, do you pump until you are empty? Like if I fill a 3 oz storage bottle, should I get out another bottle and keep going or can I be done? I've been starting to build a freezer stash and stop after what the container holds, but feel like I could fill up more if I wanted.

I would think that if you kept going, you might run the risk of ending up with an oversupply/increase in supply?
That's what I think too.
Most of what I have read is to pump for 15 - 20 minutes and stop. If you need to up your supply, then pump past the point of no flow.
Okay, that's basically what I was thinking. I get 3 oz within 5-10 mins so I don't think I should try going any longer to avoid risking an over supply issue.

This is what I did. I pumped long enough to get two let downs, which started off as 15-20 minutes but then decreased to around 10-15 minutes. Although I'm sure this is a little different for everyone. This always gave me what I needed, so I stuck with it!
I am so nervous about pumping at work. I know my job is supposed to give me time to pump but since I work in a busy hospital I can feel the glares from coworkers when I leave to pump.
Anyway LO takes Medela bottles with Dr Brown preemie nipples. With the regular slow flow Medela nipples DH always seemed to be overfeeding him when he watched him for a few hours. With the preemie nipples LO now eats the regular 1oz or so per hour. I ordered a few sets of bottles, nipples and bottle covers so I have plenty to send to daycare and bring to work to pump into

The dr. Brown nipples fit into the medela bottle necks? I'm looking for a different nipple that will fit with medela.

Sorry.. Just saw this. Yes, they do. When I first bought them they looked like they were too small but once you screw the bottle together they stay in place. It has really helped DH take LO for a few hours since he was overfeeding him before. LO isn't chugging down milk and takes longer to have a bottle

This makes me happy! We're also having issues with the Medela nipples, the "slow flow" really isn't all that slow!
Can you pop the dr. Brown nipple into the yellow Medela ring? Or do you need the Dr. Brown screw top also?
Just pop right in the yellow ring. It does look too small, like it won't fit but once u screw the top onto the bottle its fine.
And my original post should say isn't chugging down milk, not is. Sorry, typing with left hand while LO sleeps on my right.
Count me as another one working at a busy hospital & already stressing about how the eff I'm ever going to get time to pump at work. I have known other nurses that made it work but it just seems unrealistic to be able to get a 30 min lunch plus a 15 min break to pump. Not to mention the fact that there's really no good place to actually pump.
For dd1, I had our nanny give her frozen milk on Mondays. On Tuesdays through Fridays, she gave her whatever I pumped the day before. I froze Friday's milk just because it seemed like a good idea. I have a large freezer stash for dd2, so I will probably only pump once at work, and come home at lunch to nurse her. All of her other milk will be from my frozen stash. In this way, I can get out of work faster.
