So we have hardwood floors and its taken me a while to realize I need a new vacuum for them. Our vacuum has a brush that you can't remove or turn off and it sort of distributes a lot of dust instead of sucking it up. So if you have hard floors please recommend your vacuum.
We have the Hoover Linx Cordless Vacuum. It has a rechargeable battery that is removable so if it stops holding a charge you can get another battery and be all set. It is also very light weight so you can just grab it easily for a quick clean up. We have never had any issues with it not being strong enough, it has always gotten the job done. we have had it for about a year now and it has always been great. There is a switch to turn off the brush, but you can also use the brush if you have rugs to clean as well. It is great for cleaning rooms that have area rugs over hard wood floors. we have hardwood floors and have a Shark. It is OK and it gets some of the dirt up but it is not very powerful. Most of the time I feel like it just pushes the dirt around. I am interested to see what others have since I want a new one as well.
I have a shark navigator. It comes with a hardwood floor attachment, and a microfiber pad that goes on it. I works pretty good, but you do need to keep up with emptying and cleaning the filter in order for it to keep its suction.
I also have a Dyson and love it. I usually just turn the brush off when vacuuming my hardwood floors, but it also came with an attachment you can connect to the hose thats specifically for the hardwood.
So funny that you posted this because just this morning I was thinking we needed a new hard floor vacuum. Ours has started scratching our wood floors. Not cool!
Just got the Dyson DC 59 and love it! Super light and cordless. The only downfall is you have to hold the trigger. I also have an upright Dyson and love it too!
Add me to the dyson list. It's the multi surface one I think. Target had them on sale recently too. And does often. They're amazing from one floor to the next.

So, I have an old Dyson (not sure the model, my H had it before we met...almost 8 years ago) and I've been sweeping/swiffering my hard wood floors and only using my Dyson on the carpet. Am I a complete bonehead and I could have been using the vacuum on my whole house all along?

jodielyn10: I wonder if it depends on the model. I have a newer one (within the last 3 years, I think? It's the Animal DC41) that allows you to turn off the brush when you're doing hardwood floors. It also adjusts to various heights of carpet, non-carpet, etc. Does yours do the same?

I have no idea. But I know what I'll be doing when I get home
hmm, I wonder what the hell is wrong with my Dyson.... cause it does not work that well on the floors. Carpets, yes - it's amazing on the carpets! We haven't even had it a year yet so it's a newer model (an upright) but it just does not do a good job on the floors. I actually just bought a dirt devil stick vacuum at Home Depot for $20. The reviews on it on Amazon were really good and it's super simple but did a GREAT job on the floors!! I'm totally disappointed that this $20 thing works better than our expensive dyson on the floors....
