DS2 has been teething. He can't sleep well unless he's propped up. He does ok during the day with a pillow under an end of his crib mattress (2-3 hours at a clip), but at night it has been brutal. It has been at least a solid week I find myself in a chair with this guy. He's good from 8-10pm, then hit or miss if I put him back down after that. Some nights he's good for another 2-3 hour stretch but others no sooner than I get back to bed and close my eyes he's back up. He's miserable so if he's asleep on me I figure at least he's asleep, but I think he's legit killing me.
Dude and I seemed to be sharing this recliner a bit better as the nights go by...
Thought he may have an ear infection, so DW brought him in...side note. She hates calling so I'm basically her assistant. You know those mo'fo's at the pedi took my info and didn't call me back? 2 hours later I quickly called back between my patients and they were like "oh sorry, how is 3pm?" Well considering I called at 930 and it's almost noon, sure fine whatever...anyway the doc was sure he was going to have an infection by the way he was acting, but things are clear. Likely a cold/allergies and apparently littlest buddy has 6 teeth coming in ...ouch!
Got DS2 down pretty quick for bed time at 7:15. It is now midnight and he's been up 4 times. I know it's not going to help but I need to get some sleep. Back to sleeping in this recliner. 5-6 uncomfortable hours is better than up every hour.
What keeps waking him up? Bathroom? Tirlessness? Tired keeping him up a bit longer to keep him down longer?
He became a great sleeper a couple months ago. He never slept in late, but you could count on 8 or 8:30 to about 4. Then he started teething, he got sick, and he's forgotten how to get himself back to sleep. I started sleeping with him in a chair so he was upright or he couldn't breathe well. So really I have no one to blame but myself...poor sleep habits. I should know better. I treat other people's insomnia. Lol. At least I'm good at that. Docs make poor patients I guess.
He's good about going down at bed time. If we keep him up later he's over tired, bed time is a disaster, and he sleeps even worse. We'll get back to sleep training, but if it's like our first, we'll get him back to sleeping well just in time for more teeth and cold season to jack it all up again. Someday he'll get there. We just hope it's soon.

Sometimes the fact that it is winter time and being warm is a good motivator. Wrapping them up warm in bed makes them feel better. The weather could help in this situation and get everything working before the end of the season.
