When I was at my appt they did a urine pregnancy test to confirm and I heard them talking about it in the hallway that it was "positive, but not super positive for 8 weeks." Of course this made me nervous, so I asked the doctor about it and she said that it doesn't mean anything, pregnancy tests are yes/no, blah, blah. They are testing my blood levels (going to the lab now) to be sure, and when she did the vaginal exam and checked my uterus, she said that it was "as she expected it to be." So I don't think I need to be overly worried, but of course I am.
I'll keep you posted on my blood test results.
UPDATE: HCG came back at 154,608! Don't need to retest! Thanks for all the support.

Rememberer a line is a line! When I was testing I never got more than a squinter before I stopped testing. Nurses really need to be mindful of who is within an earshot of their conversation. Try not to stress.
I also would have run out and bought a test! I'm glad the line is nice and dark. How unprofessional for the nurses to be talking within earshot of you!
Can't they do an ultrasound at 8 weeks? My OB does a dating u/s at 8 weeks.

I asked about an u/s, but she wanted to do blood work first. My regular OB is on maternity leave, so this was someone different. I think my reg OB would have done one. She did an u/s for me at my 11 week appt last time because they couldn't hear the heart beat with the Doppler.

I am so glad this turned out well! This probably doesn't matter anymore, but just because I love science, there is something called the "Hook effect" where the HCG is so high that it saturates the antibodies on the test and can produce a false negative or faint line on the test. www.pregnancylab.net/2011/05/false-negative-pregnancy-tests.html. I wonder if that happened with the test at the doctor's office.
