Help! Crib to Bed Transition

I'm dreading this day. G's basically figured out door knobs already, so when he's out of the crib, we'll have to figure out what we're going to do next...

Tagging @elf828 & tLex bc I think they've already transitioned and generally have sage wisdom to impart...

yeah....since I can't really figure those out (you should see me trying to leave daycare when I do the pickups, it's fhysterical)...

With DS1, we used a baby gate at his door so he wouldn't wander around. Luckily DS2 hasn't tried to escape

We haven't transitioned yet, but are going to do a mattress on the floor and a baby gate at the door to start. Let us know how it goes

Is the crib higher on the back side? We turned DS's crib around for a while because we weren't quite ready to make the switch to a toddler bed when he did it. He wasn't able to climb out because the back was so tall. That worked without any problems.
