I had a long reply typed up and lost it.. grrr.
I know I posted about E's egg allergy last night, but thought I would post in case any of this info is helpful. E had eggs 3-4 times without any issue and then one morning had hives all over her body after eating them. She broke out in hives the most in areas where the egg actually had touched her skin. We saw an allergist and the egg allergy was confirmed with a scratch test. I know they can also do a blood test but the scratch test was easy and painless, and gave us the confirmation we needed.
The allergist said E was not anymore likely to have allergies to any other food groups just because of her egg allergy, although did mention that most kids with food allergies also have eczema. I thought that was interesting. One thing to note - the allergist mentioned that although unlikely, sometimes the type of allergic reaction they have can change, so we were prescribed an epi pen just in case. We will probably never need it but it gives me peace of mind to have one in the diaper bag and at daycare just in case anything were to happen. She had no issues with me eating eggs and breastfeeding, but I decided to stop eating them just because she's always grabbing at whatever I'm eating. I asked about that as well and the allergist said most kids were fine with it, but there haven't been many studies about the reaction to proteins babies receive when breastfeeding.
I know carseat and iwubrory have dealt with dairy allergies so they may be able to provide more info. I'm sorry you're dealing with this! E has a dairy intolerance but I know that's very different than an allergy. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
