Hi everyone! I intro'd months ago when we started the foster parent licensure process. At the time I didn't realize what a long process it was, so I backed off and haven't posted, just lurked randomly. We officially got licensed last week and were placed with a sweet newborn that same day. She was a short term placement, so as of today she is with her family. Our first experience was wonderful, but I learned just how quickly our three year old can get attached to a new baby. I know time will help, but right now she is sad and missing the baby. We discussed daily that baby wasn't staying and had # of days left, but she just loved the baby as soon as she saw her.
Does anyone else have a toddler or preschool age child and provide foster care? If so, what has been your experience with their attachment and heartbreak when a child comes and goes? We want our daughter to love the foster babies and treat them like siblings, but I'm worried that having her heart broken again and again when children leave will cause long term attachment issues for her. Anyone in a similar situation? I'd love to hear from more experienced mommas.
