Do You Love Your Washer? Tell Me!

I'm am 100% taking a baseball bat to my LG "top of the line" High Effeciency washer, and I am never buying another HE washer or LG appliance again!  It sucks.  The customer service sucks.  I want to rip it apart with my teeth and break windows with the parts.

If you love your washer, what washer do you have? Please give me the make and possibly model # so I don't have to go to 50 stores, listening to the salesperson trying to upsell me when I want your very basic grandma washer that will work great after 15 yrs.

I'm thinking an old school agitator and non-HE is the way to go; so many people have told me that theirs works great year after year, or they wish they never gave their up in favor of an HE.

When we did research in this we decided non HE. We have the agitator and basic cycles. Honestly I only use the cold water, permanent press cycle anyway so I don't need a bunch of choices. It's GE but I don't know the model number right now. Not the lowest but the second lowest model. We got it at Home Depot. So far it works well.

My grandparents just bought a new washer. It's a basic bare bones washer with agitator, and knobs instead of buttons. It even kind of looks like the one they replaced which was at least 25 yeasts old! It's either a Kenmore or maytag. I'll look for a model number tomorrow when I go visit.

I'm leaning towards a Speed Queen, but it seems pricey for a small drum and no features--its more expensive than the HE!

I hate my front loader HE washer so much. I wish I had the money to replace it.

Following this too. Our new HE front load LG washer and dryer are staying with our house. I honestly won't miss them as much as I thought. MissMusic, the top load isn't any better?

When we replaced our washer a year or so ago we had a great salesman who actually talked us out of an HE washer, for which I was very grateful! I have a sleeping baby on me right now but when she wakes up I can go check! My only complaint is that I feel like the wash cycle takes a really long time. It does a great job with my cloth diapers though!

Oh fuck no.  Nothing is clean, ever.  I run 2-3 cycles, 2 hrs each.  I've called customer service a couple of times and followed their suggestions with no luck.  Most recently its been shredding and stretching my clothes!!  The pant legs / long sleeves get entangled in the wash, and I'm assuming they stretch during the cycle, esp the spin.  I've got tank and cami arm holes the size of sink holes on 1 side and regular size on the other!!

Last week I put in my favorite maternity shirt with a fancy (non-removable) tie.  I tied up the thingy, turned it inside-out, and put it on gentle cycle.  The ties came out shredded.  That was the last straw.

YES! I need one that will work on cloth diapers!  The HE ones DO NOT WORK.

I hear that.  I'm hoping to sell our 1.5 yr old HE top of the line piece of crap and cover most of the cost of a new machine.  I don't want to drop $200 out of pocket but I'm at my wits end!

We have an old school maytag. Agitator and nobs. LOVE it and will always get a grandma machine. Its 10 years old in December so they probably don't make it anymore.

We have the exact same one as sarasansh,. We just got it last summer but it is the same model as the one we replaced which was 15 years old. The washer still worked actually but the dryer crapped out. There was a special going on so we bought the set. I don't know how handy you are but the good thing about old school washers is that they are easy to fix. I repaired ours a couple of times by myself when H was working or I was in college (and I am not that handy). The idea of a washer is very simple and there aren't that many parts. If you start getting fancier then there are more electronics to break and more things can go wrong.

sarasansh, I really do think we are long lost sisters. We have the same washer and read the same books, and watch American Ninja warrior. If you tell me that you love pizza and ice cream then I'm convinced we are twins.

This makes me sad to read. I've been dreaming of the day when I can replace my loud washer with an agitator that tears up my clothes and with a top loader that doesn't have an agitator. I think I need to do a lot of research before I decide on a new machine.

Riverdong11, some of the top loaders without agitators don't work at all since they didn't modify the barrel part at all. If they take out the agitator then the basin should spin and agitate enough to move the clothes around. Some manufacturers just took the agitator out so there was more room but didn't modify the basin or didn't do it correctly. So the clothes basically just sit in soapy water. Look for one where the basin does something.

We have one without the agitator and I love it. You still have to put the clothes in like one is there (leave a hole in the middle) but so far so good! And the buttons are in front, not back. That's my favorite part.

I know this thread is really old but I was just getting around to reading it and I wanted to interject since you mentioned Speed Queen - that's what we have and love it!
