It's all so true. The palmetto bugs are just awful. And yeah, the humidity is as bad as we say it is.

I'm not really a seafood fan, so the crawfish and frogs and gator pieces just don't appeal to me. The fried pig fat (can't remember what it was called & too lazy to click back) truly disgusts me though.

I think it'd be fun to take a boat out into the wetlands, but that freaky little Orange-toothed thing would scare me and then I'd be trying to evade giant flying cockroaches while not pissing off the alligator.

Staying in NO and seeing historic architecture and drinking still sound fun. But thatns probably not the authentic experience.

OTOH, I could just go back to Disney World.

hedgehog I was born and raised in Louisiana and lived in New Orleans about 4 years. I never saw a nutria, alligator, or flying cockroach. The food is what you're missing. I don't eat frogs legs because I'm afraid of frogs. Fried alligator is delicious. Love crawfish.

How did you live there for so long and never see a flying cockroach??? Ugh. Not fair.

Like the things you named aren't flying around NOLA. Also not wetlands in the city either. I never ran into a alligator or nutria. I did see one flying roach when I was 17. There is a lot of other types of food besides seafood there, just saying.

I would love to be able to visit New Orleans someday. Palmetto bugs be damned lol. If I ever make it there I will be eating all the foodz. Question tho in regards to the crawfish do you eat all the insides? Do you have to cut out green parts like with crab. I have always wondered. Forgive me if stupid question.

We have palmettos in Florida too, but they're pretty low on my "Shit I Do Not Want To Deal With" list. FWIW they aren't flying around in the air like mosquitoes and gnats. It's more like, they have wings and can fly, but usually don't.

For crawfish you take off the tail and peel off the shell. Or you can just buy crawfish tails if you're making etoufee. I think i just spelled that wrong

However that wouldn't stop me from going to New Orleans... I WILL go someday, I have to! Besides, I grew up in the Sonoran Desert (Tucson AZ) where we have lovely things known as Palo Verde beetles... sooooooooooo... I'm familiar with my own brand of fresh hell from that.... I'll take on the palmettos if I must.
