I just wanted to share something. Yesterday,, I burnt a tortilla in my oven. By burnt I mean completely forgot about it until it was a frisbee and when I opened my oven my whole house was filled with smoke.
In a rush I put DS in his car seat in the sunroom where is was smoke free and opened all the windows before leaving for a couple hours. It wasn't until late last night that I realized my smoke detector never alarmed.
This morning when I took it down I noticed that the back cover holding the batteries in had broke not sure how... But the batteries were not being held in place therefore the detector was useless.
I just wanted to put a friendly reminder to all you ladies to check your smoke detectors. We were lucky nothing serious happened.
Good reminder. unfortunately we have a burnt blob of something at the bottom of our oven that has filled the house with smoke a few time recently, so we have tested the smoke detector a bunch of times

This. and I also burnt three tortillas in the toaster oven a few weeks ago. It happens.
My DH called me at work once to tell me that our dog wouldn't come out of the closet. He would bring Pinky (the dog) out in the living room and the dog would tuck his tail and run to the bedroom closet every time. My DH was worried the dog was sick and needed to go to the vet. So I rushed home and as soon as got in the house I asked my husband what that high pitched chirping was. He was like, "what chirping". Apparently, one of our smoke detector's batteries were running out and so it was omitting a very high pitched chirp every 30 seconds. Anyway, the dog heard it and it freaked him out. My DH is apparently def to high pitched noises and didn't hear a thing. So I tested the smoke detector noise and he couldn't hear it either. So we had to get a few new smoke detectors to replace the high pitched ones.

Lucky nothing happened! And thanks for the reminder....but ours goes off if you look at it funny. All. The. Time. We actually make a habit out of taking it off the wall before we bake because it goes off every time no matter what and whips our dog up into a frenzy.....but, we are always in the immediate area and put it back up after we're done cooking, which means we'll know right away when the battery starts to go since it beeps when you put it back on.
Oh man, we have tested ours so many times… and right after LO was born, almost all of them started losing battery charge and were beeping. It was like they knew we had a sleeping newborn in the house!
