So when I had Dagny I just used a Medela Harmony hand pump. I did have an oversupply with Dagny but throughout the year I breastfed I could easily get 4 ounces in a 10 minute pumping session, and I didn't pump on a daily basis. Now this time I don't feel like I have an oversupply but I did get the free Medela PISA from insurance so I assumed pumping for an occasional bottle would be easier. Nope, pumped for 30 minutes this morning & could only get 2.5 ounces total. I fed Freya at 8:30 and pumped at 9:45. Is this a normal amount to pump? I'm seriously considering buying another Medela Harmony (old one lost suction) since it's only $26 on Amazon in hopes of getting better results. I can't pump daily - just been doing it on mornings Dagny is in preschool & on the weekends.
I have a really low supply to begin with, but have the Madela Pump In Style Tote and I like it. I got it through insurance.
Anyway, I'm not sure how different it is than the PISA... It definitely isn't as good as the hospital grade Symphony (that i used at the hospital, and the same rental I had while E was in the NICU), but it does the job. I do find it works better with some massage/hand expression though too; have you tried that while pumping?

Thst seems pretty normal. It was only an hour since she nursed. Does she feed both sides? If so then that could account for it to. Are you drinking enough water? I aim for 100oz a day. Maybe up your water and that may help.
That sounds like a pretty normal amount to pump. If you assume baby eats 24-30 oz a day you produce about 1oz an hour. It could be different flange size, you haven't figured out the pump speed that's best for your let down etc etc. Maybe next time will be better?
Since it's new I would assume it's not the pump, unless you have the wrong size flanges. Also, try the different speeds. I noticed I got better results with 1/2 speed.
But I think it's normal output after her nursing. But if you stick with it and pump that same time the next couple days, then you might see an increase. You would be basically telling your body that that pump is an additional feeding. I think after 2-3 days it would work. I pumped at 1 pm and 1x before I went to bed while on leave, no matter what time Eliza nursed and that helped to build up my supply and helped with a stash. I just tried to make sure that I pumped the same time, within an hour, every day. You wouldn't need to go that far, but I knew my MIL doesn't have a lot of experience with BF babies so I knew we would waste a lot of milk so I didn't want to be short.

Ok thanks ladies - I just wasn't sure if that's a normal amount to get or not. I'll save my money and just stick with my free insurance pump! @alyafusa I do think I need to make sure I'm drinking enough water. Just hard when running about with a 3yo!!

I think that's a great amount for that time pumping!! I actually have noticed that I have gotten more quicker from the hand pump so I'm actually going to try it out at work today instead of the Pisa. If I'm not here the rest of the day, it's because my hand cramped up lol

I noticed the same thing. I am only pumping 1X randomly since F is still an newborn. I noticed the hand pump was way easier to use.

Have you tried hand expressing? One of my friends wrote a book about it and swears by it in terms of quantity of milk and efficiency in getting it done. Her book is called Hand Expression: An Honest Guide to Making the Most of Your Breastmilk. I know it seems a little weird but she swears by it, her book is on Amazon if you're interested.
Otherwise, I think it took a while for me to get a decent amount of milk with the pump. I think you're doing great!
