My oldest first crawled while my parents were watching him. Luckily they took a video. I'm glad they told me, they were so excited and proud and it was actually kind of nice to share that with them.

I don't really know how I feel. My husband stays at home with our son. It has been tough to come to terms with the fact that I'll miss some milestones. I jokingly tell ds to wait until I'm home. I think I would want DH to tell me when I get home not while I'm at work. Then we can try to repeat it.

i personally don't understand not wanting to know. that just seems strange to me, and not a good way to go about life in general (pretending something didn't happen so you can be the "first" to see something)
incidentally, last night LO finally rolled over when i was home! it was so fun. usually he is exhausted by the time i make it home (daycare and then home with daddy, i have a very long commute) so previously he had rolled for daddy but would just lay there screaming or eating his fists when i made it back. he must have been better rested yesterday because he rolled over twice - once to each direction from belly to back. it was great fun to cheer him on and see his face when he made it. adorable.

I clicked SS, but only because I'm a SAHM so I'm her primary caregiver. That said, I totally missed the first time she rolled from back to belly. She tried hard for a week before she got it. One night while I was taking a quiz online for one of my classes, I heard DH say, "Uh...." When I asked what, he told me she finally rolled. I was mainly shocked I missed it since I figured I'd see all the first milestones being a SAHM. I don't mind that DH told me and wouldn't want to be kept in the dark.

My mom is the only one who has seen DS roll over. She didn't mention it for a week until I said "he still doesn't want to roll over". She's like, " oh yeah, didn't I tell you?". Ummm. No. NO you didn't. On the plus side, at least I know he can, even if I haven't witnessed myself.
Besides, all our babies will reach them at a different time, regardless. (my little one was born in October) I don't mind if your kiddos reach them first...

Someone told me when my oldest was a baby that even if you don't see it the first time your LO does it, the first time s/he does it for you is still the first time you see it.
