Finalization is happening soon! *And pictures!*

I am so sorry I haven't been active lately... life has been insane!  

So we finally got our date for finalization - the day before Thanksgiving!  So excited that we will have something to be extra thankful for this year!  Two questions:

1.  Our lawyer said he would call us to go over our testimony... what kind of questions do they ask you?  I don't know why but I'm super nervous about this.

2.  Did you have a party or gathering after finalization?  Because it is literally the day before Thanksgiving, we might not do anything but I don't want the day to go by with no celebration.  Any recommendations?

I can't help with the first question because we haven't finalized yet.

In regards to the party. The plan right now is to have the finalization hearing the same date his bio sister has hers with her parents. Then small celebration dinner with the 6 of us. At a later date, we are going to have a joint party to celebrate our new families.

That is a good looking baby!

We were asked our names, birthdates, marriage date (way to screw that up, DH, lol), how long we'd had custody, whether or not we were going to raise him as our own (forever, treat him the same in our wills, whatever), if we'd had any questions or anything else to add. It was MAYBE a 20 min deal. We had our families with us and so we went out for pizza after to celebrate (it was an afternoon/evening appt). Congratulations!

We did finalization twice, both times our attorney gave us a copy of the questions and answers ahead of time. They were all very easy questions like what's your name where do you live. Then questions about the actual placement. Court was really nice - like the culmination of our long journey to be parents.

We didn't do a party either time. We made mention at their baptisms that we had finalized the adoption. To be honest the whole court thing was kinda exhausting for our kids (it was in the middle of naps). We do acknowledge family day on each anniversary

I'm so happy for you! What a wonderful way to celebrate Thanksgiving! And what a cutie pie you've got there!

I don't have any advice because the only adoption finalization I've ever witnessed in person was my (now) husband's, when he was 27 years old, and we went out to a restaurant that night with his family to celebrate.

We didn't/don't go to court for ours so sorry I can't help you there.

For our first son's finalization we found out via an email that it happened two weeks prior so we just did an impromptu family celebration at home (and later went out the 3 of us)....we have used the day to have a celebration of our family from then on.  We didn't do a bigger party since had showers and welcome parties.

I am anticipating we'll do the same for our second son.  We have a different lawyer so hopefully we can find out sooner this time.

That is super exciting that you have your finalization date!! I can't offer any advice, as we are not finalized yet, and apparently it will be different in Canada for us through CAS, we won't be there for a date. It all happens behind the scenes, then we find out. Good looking, happy baby!! Congrats again!
