Emmy is sick. It started with a runny nose on Sunday (maaaaybe Saturday afternoon). Sneezing, sore throat, congestion started today.
At nap time, she was settling down and all of a sudden started crying and begging me to fix her throat. I got her calmed down and she fell asleep on my lap for maybe 10 minutes before waking up crying inconsolably about her throat hurting. Got a flashlight and looked.
There was a nodule on the right side of her throat about the size of a chickpea. I freaked out and took her to the doctor who told me that she didn't think it was from the illness. She said some people's tonsils grow oddly and it was probably normal for Emmy. She said we should keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't grow.
I was so freaked out about the nodule, I didn't really think of anything else, but later realized that they hadn't done any kind of strep culture. Emmy has been having a really rough night, sleeping fitfully and mumbling about her throat hurting, semi-waking to cry about the same thing before exhaustion makes her sleep again. She's running a fever, but her throat hurts so much that she freaks out about taking medicine (it hurts her throat more). She threw up the last batch as soon as she tried to take it because it hurt so bad.
Obviously I'm taking her back in for a strep test tomorrow. But even when she had strep previously, it's never been this bad. Im wondering if it could be more related to the nodule. It's really concerning me and I don't know if I buy the "it's normal" thing. Has anyone heard of tonsils growing like that? Or have experience with something like this?
