gk12, We have it here, but only because my Mom got it for V. She was a little older maybe 6. There's a book that accompanies it. So i would suggest reading the book with them. It explains everything in the book. Basically he/she is Santa's little helper and watches you and then every night he/she flies back to the North Pole to report to Santa how you were for the day. The kicker is that the child CAN NOT touch the elf or it ruins the magic and he won't ever fly back. It goes through naming the elf and everything. The difficult part is you or your H have to move it every night. I would forget sometimes and have to play it off. "yes she did move, see! she's moved a couple inches" When we first started it we discussed how the elf could only hide in certain rooms and I played it like we were explaining that to the elf as well. V's room was excluded so i wouldn't risk waking her up moving it. We did the kitchen, living room, bathroom, hallway, etc. Sometimes I'd stick her in the tree, on shelves, I've taped her to the wall, and our window ledge. Just a few ideas. Then every morning she would be so excited to find it.
We bring her out the day after thanksgiving (whcih reminds me I need to find her) and it obviously goes away Xmas Morning. Ours has a skirt that we got later. So we had to place the skirt next to the elf one night and then I had to dress her whiile V was sleeping since you can't touch her. I don't get super creative, except 2-3 times.
There are lots of links for creative ideas if you're interested. But honestly, V has/had a lot of fun with just moving it to boring or simple places. I think Hanna will understand it more this year and V is kind of getting too old. So it works out perfect.
