I'm so fed up. We had a vacuum that did a crappy job which finally died after 6 years. I bought one from costco which lasted a month. I had to replace the belt twice and it started getting really hot and dying after cleaning only 2 rooms. Clearly I need something new. We're having a party on Saturday and we've invited the whole neighborhood. I really don't want these strangers thinking my house is filthy. I plan on ordering from amazon tonight. Help! I don't want to spend $1000, but I want something that will work well- for a long time. TIA!
The Dyson Animal. You wouldn't need the animal model, but we got it because we have pets and it's supposed to be better for pet hair. But I really like Dyson.
I was so over the canister type vacuum after my old one, so we got a bag type and it does a great job. It's a Eureka, and has a pet attachment (we don't have pets) and is easy to use. It does a good job and we've had it for 4 years I think now... I know we got it before Joey was born.

We have the shark navigator and love it. It picks up so much dirt and hair. I thought my old vacuum was cleaning the floors just fine until I used the shark for the first time. It's also easy to clean and has held up very well. In addition to the kids we also have a dog and a cat that sheds a lot.
Thanks for the input guys! I ended up going with a Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away. I loved the dyson but couldn't convince dh to spend that much on a vacuum. We'll see how it goes.
