Dagny still sleeps in an overnight diaper. Since she usually wakes with it pretty full, she still needs if. Well she's been taking it off in the morning and twice this week I've gone up to get her & her bed is soaked, pillows, blankets, through the mattress cover to the mattress. I've explained to her several times she needs to leave the diaper on so her bed doesn't get wet & yucky but it doesn't seem to sink in. Anyone deal with this? Tips...ideas? Also, what can I use to clean a mattress?
I have had this problem on and off as well. I had some luck with putting something snug fitting on over her diaper. That's hit or miss at this age though. I also told her very firmly "Do not take your diaper off." That actually seemed to work a little better than trying to explain it to her. Again, it didn't work every night. Nothing I did was a sure bet but these things helped some and she has stopped doing it right now.
I unfortunately can't offer any real advice. Kayleigh takes her pull-up off first thing in the morning, but we are all up at that point so she doesn't wet herself after its off. Is she waking up, taking it off, and then going back to sleep?
As a backup, can you put some of those night time pads (this?). At least if she does take it off, the mattress and sheets will be slightly more protected.
roo1582 well another problem (sort of) is that Dagny doesn't let us know when she wakes up. She'll lay in her bed awake for quite a while. So i have no idea if she's taking it off & going back to sleep or taking it off & just being a brat by peeing in her bed. I've been trying to get to her as soon as she wakes up but if I'm still sleeping or nursing te baby I can't do that. I'll look into those pads - they could help!
jennmm I'll work on trying to remind her every night to keep her diaper on until I get there.
I wish I could put her little potty in her room but the kid will not get out of her bed until we come to get her so I can't imagine she'd get up to pee, even if the potty was right there.
I have no advice but trying to find something that will prohibit her from getting to the diaper. Maybe footie pajamas and put them on backwards. Have you tried limiting drinks 1-2 hours before bedtime to limit the need to go potty?

i would get a waterproof mattress pad. I would also make Dagny clean up some of the mess. The pedi had suggested that because DS was still having accidents for awhile. Sometimes he would like to help but if you make into a chore they have to do it's more of a punishment.
I would definitely make her help change the bed and clean the bed to start. Joey sleeps with a diaper on too, but never takes it off until she gets up for good... although she doesn't lay in bed after she's awake either, she gets up and comes to get me (or H if I'm not there) first.
Do you use regular diapers or pull-ups? Maybe if you could get some pull ups that are easy to get on by herself, you could put one by her bed. Maybe she doesn't like the wet feeling once the diaper is soaked, so she's taking it off for comfort... if she had a pull up that was easily accessible, would she put that on while she is in bed - before she (potentially) falls back asleep?
Anyway...we are still wearing a night diaper and Henry wakes with a wet bed sometimes when he is wearing pajama sets, instead of footies...I think he pulls the diaper down in teh middle of the night...so we are keeping him in footies for now.

Maybe I would be ruining my child by doing this, but I would definitely throw out the Santa card right now.
What time is she usually getting up? Could you maybe just wake her up instead? I know it's not ideal to wake a kid up early if they don't have to, but maybe catching it before it happens will help it stick in her head.
I also think duct tape should help. I think laurski81 said she does onsies to keep the diaper on? Maybe I dreamed that tho...
Yes We only do a pull up at night now and but I was using large onesies (Henry is in a 5t that I had special ordered off of Amazon) to keep the diaper on. We haven't had to put him in a onesie in a while though because all of a sudden he stopped messing with them.

We are along the same lines as roo1582. E lets us know when she wakes up so we can get her right after she takes the diaper off. E usually does not poop at night so we don't have mess. I fear the day she takes off a poop diaper.
I agree with others. Use duck tape or something that makes it harder for her to get it off. That way she has trouble getting it off.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I did think about duck tape & probably will try that tonight. Next accident I'll make her help clean it. She doesn't like footie pajamas bc she's says they make her too hot.
We do have a waterproof mattress cover but I just went out & bought a second one so they could double up. Just 1 wasn't doing the trick.
