I know I've asked this a million times. H wants to take Henry to the pedi GI and I said some of you had done that and the answer was still miralax.
So. Have you been to the GI? Was the only option miralax? Are they still on it? What dose?
Henrys doing 1.5 tsp every other dayish and still has quite a bit of trouble. I really think we need to do daily but he is super anti miralax because he hates that we have to do it and is scared he will be come dependant on it. Henry's been on something since at least 2, but maybe more like 1.5. He gets a decwnt amount of fluid in and trying to get more fruits and veggies in but you know how that goes with a preschooler. Also does a probiotic daily. No cheese. We did soy but then he dropped % for BMI so back to whole milk and pediasure.

We never went to a GI but did do daily Miralax for quite awhile with Riley. I was nervous to use it daily but every time we say her pedi he said it was okay.
Honestly the only thing that helped her was taking away dairy. It was the last thing we were willing to try before asking for a referral and luckily it worked. Riley does almond milk and occasionally has cheese (like less than once a week). Is there something else he can drink/eat for the fat to see if removing dairy 100% would help? GL lady!
Does he drink Apple juice? I found out from one doc in the NICU that for some children Apple Juice can be a factor that adds to constipation. Pear juice is typically a first try, since it's higher in fiber... and then Prunes or Prune juice is typically tied next.
E did get miralax in the NICU along with Pear juice for awhile and even then sometimes needed a glycerin suppository. When we came home shew as on Pear juice 2x a day (a small amount) and we recently changed to Prune juice instead. Then when we finally met with the GI doc last week, she had us up the prune juice to 3x a day.
For E it's a matter of maintenance, and her GI likes to stay away from Miralax if possible, since it's never truly been tested long term in kids. Sometimes it's needed, and it's the only thing that does work for some. But she likes using juice first if at all possible. Especially if it's a long term/maintenance type situation.

Wow I've never heard of apple juice being constipating! I'm going to go get some pear juice tonight. We will literally try everything.
We've tried prune juice before but it of course is disgusting and he will not touch it. We also tried the prune juice extract for a little while and it wasn't very much so we talked him into it but it didn't really help.
We went to the GI. Spent thousands on various tests and the only answer we got was to continue the Miralax and one day she would outgrow it. We do 1 tsp daily and she stills has issues at least a few times a month. Our big struggle is getting adequate liquid intake in her. She just won't drink anything and I can't force her to. Nothing works to bribe, trick or encourage it that we have found. It's frustrating and I also don't want her on Miralax for life, but you gotta poop.

This is kinda how I feel. He absolutely has to poop. 2 tsp and he had diarrhea. But 1.5 every other day isn't quite there either. These damn kids are tough. I wish we didn't have to do miralax but we of course will do what we need to so he can poop easily. Hes to the point where he won't eat if he hasn't pooped for a few days. And that is super stressful to me!

Poor guy. I would continue miralax daily. I know they are kids but lots of adults need it to be regular. At this point it could be lots of things. A GI might not be a bad idea but the testing sucks and more than likely its nothing except the lovely toddler diet.

Yeah, if he isn't eating then he is obviously uncomfortable. We have to do it daily or things get bad quick with Emma. She gets fissures and then gets into this terrible witholding pattern where she won't poop for days, then she won't sleep for days because she is in pain from needing to poop and all she does is lay in my lap and cry yet still refuse to poop. It's so terrible. We've tried everything to get her off the Miralax but it always backfires and she ends up with a fissure. I hope you get the dosage figured out soon! If your DH is adamant on the GI, at least you might get your way in the end when the GI prescribes daily Miralax

Luckily he doesn't complain about pain and he really isn't even acting likr like he's trying to go and can't. Just 7 days with out pooping is ridiculous.
Its jist frustrating becausr I know its foing to hurt him whem he finally does go. But now we're going to do daily! We can't go through this again!
Has your DD been on the same does the whole time? And What do you do when the miralax isn't working well?
nursedesi She'll have been on 1 tsp daily for a year in December. We haven't had the need to up it and it works 99% of the time. We strictly limit all dairy products but do some soy or goat cheese and soy or almond yogurt. She will not drink soy or almond milk so we still give her 4 ounces of 2% milk a day. If she still starts to have some issues I usually push pears, black bean tacos in high fiber tortillas (she loves them), and bribe her to drink more water. Those things usually help.
We do Miralax every day. Our pedi actually told us to give her a cap a day even if she was pooping constantly, and do it for 2 weeks to clean her out.
We don't give THAT much, but its a decent amount. The pedi also recommended a probiotic for kids (we use Culturelle) and its working GREAT. We went from painful poops every 4-5 days to easy poopin' every day or every other.
You can also do the Activia yogurt, which we were told helps as well.

Ooo I just remembered. When miralax needed a little help we added pumpkin! My aunt recommended it and it worked great. Take a can of pure pumpkin and mix it with a cake mix (we do chocolate) add some chocolate chips and bake according to the box for cupcakes. (Don't add the eggs or oil you just use the mix and pumpkin). Worked well, freeze well, and are really good! But beware they make you poop so don't over eat them.
