Hello all...moving over here from A16 with a heavy heart right now. Went for my routine 16 week appointment last Thursday and they were unable to find a heartbeat. LO was measuring about 14 weeks - still waiting for results of chromosome testing to find out more information. They're unsure if baby had been gone for several weeks or if it was just measuring small. I'm leaning towards the latter as I'm convinced I was feeling movement during the late part of week 15. I had a D&E the day after my MMC was diagnosed. Physically I am recovering just fine but mentally/emotionally I am still a train wreck. I am a healthcare provider and have taken a LOA from work because I don't feel like it's safe for me to be caring for patients right now.
***LC trigger warning***
I had an uneventful first pregnancy and now have an almost 2 year old son so this MMC has really thrown me.
I'm terrified of TTC again because of the idea that this could happen again. The fact that the loss was so late and that there were absolutely no signs just make it hard to comprehend.
The only thing that has made this bearable is talking to other women who have also experienced loss/es and knowing that I will make it to the other side. Thanks for listening and I look forward to getting to know some of you, even though it is sad to meet through these circumstances.

Thank you for the support! I am also hopeful that we may get some answers....and maybe even find out the gender. I know it's a long shot though so trying to be realistic about it as well. They told us it's about 50/50 that we may get helpful information from testing.

Hello all- got the results of our chromosome testing today. We actually got results, which was good as they were not sure if cells would grow. It was a baby boy, and he had normal chromosomes. I am so glad we were able to find out the sex- we have named the baby now. I am also happy to hear the chromosomes were normal- although it doesn't answer the question of "why?"
Now on to the task of convincing my OB that (based on these results) it's absolutely warranted to do more testing. He was pretty adamant that my loss was related to abnormal chromosomes- curious to hear what he says now.

Be aware that most doctors won't do further testing until after a second loss, based on current ACOG recommendations. Some will still wait until a third. And insurance will likely not pay for the testing after only one loss. I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope you're able to find what you're looking for.

This is true for an early miscarriage but much of the research I have done indictes that many physicians will test after a single second trimester loss, since the reasons for them after typically different than first trimester losses. I am most concerned about a possible blood clotting disorder- this is easily treatable. If I have to pay for this so be it- worth it for peace of mind.....
