I loooove green bean casserole. Have you tried Alton Brown's recipe? SO GOOD! I do the same thing at Christmas when I get assigned potatoes for my ILs. They don't ever serve MASHED POTATOES, so that is my contribution. It's always been this awful cheesy hash brown casserole with whole corn flakes on top and HUGE pieces of raw onion. I feel like I'm eating all breakfast items in one dish. Blech. This year I have to bring a salad so I'm trying to figure out how to sell mashed potatoes as a salad.
Just bring both and say something like "I made these because I had a bunch of potatoes in the pantry so I didn't want them to go to waste"
I may do this with green bean casserole since it's my year at the IL's. I'll just bring that as my contribution. It isn't real Thanksgiving without a green bean casserole! (In my opinion, that is. :-) )

I'm a purist when it comes to my GB casserole (I follow the recipe on the fried onions can) - but maybe I'll branch out sometime!
And who the hell doesn't have mashed potatoes on Thanksgiving?! That is crazy talk.
Anything with cheesy hashbrowns and cornflakes is mos def a breakfast item.

THANK YOU! You have justified my bewilderment at my ILs.

It's classic, god I love it. My mom would always have to buy an extra can of the fried onions for us to munch on.
ALTHOUGH, the cheesy hashbrowns you are describing is a classic Christmas dish in my house. It's amazing.

1. How far along are you? 5w6d
2. Any thing new/fun? Same old, same old. Just chugging along.
3. Symptom check: All day nausea, my boobs are killing me & I'm exhausted.
4. Rants/Raves? I woke up with a cold. I can't take anything & I feel awful. So that's fun.
5. GTKY: With American Thanksgiving right around the corner do you have anything planned for the holiday (Canadian friends what did you do for your Thanksgiving)? What food are you looking forward to the most? Any good recipes to share? We're hosting this year. The husband is smoking a turkey that will be TO. DIE. FOR. I'm in charge of a few sides, but I'm most excited about the Oreo cheesecake cupcakes I'm making for dessert.

Just got back from my ultrasound and we have one little string bean. We saw the heart flutter and it was just amazing! I go back next Wednesday and hope to hear the heartbeat.

I had my appointment today! It went well. I freaked out at first because the intake nurse acted surprised when I asked about an ultrasound. She told me that was not on the schedule but she was able to get a MW to come in and do one though, mid-appointment. The little nugget is still growing and HB going strong. Otherwise, just a bunch of questions about my health and lots of pamphlets. Going back in 2 weeks for genetic screen and NT!
