So I thought I would try a fun GTKY question as thing are still a little slow on our BMB. Today is The Walking Dead mid season finale and it got me thinking what would your plan be in the event of a Zombie Apocalypse or any other type of apocalypse?

Grab the guns, bows, hatchet, fishing, and camping gear + all the non perishable food. Load up the truck and all gas cans. drive as far north as possible and set up camp on a small island in a fast-flowing river. River washes away zombies in non-winter and zombies freeze in winter.

I like the way you think. Sounds similar to how my H and I would be! I'm thankful that my H bow hunts so that if we ever ran out of ammo we would at least be able to hunt for food relatively easily.
I will say the idea of a zombie apocalypse is more scary now that I'm KU.
H and I have a boat and we always go to this island we affectionately call "Shark Island" We joke we would go there in any sort of apocalypse. Unfortunately we don't have any weapons or ways to protect ourselves so not sure how long we would actually last out there!
ETA: My back-up plan would be one of the many grain silos around here, higher ground and all that.

We would grab everyone (including my parents and my brother) all the camping equipment, guns, bows, and other implements of destruction and take my fathers boat out to an island somewhere and hunt for our food. We would also knock off a liquor store and some sort of department store on the way for canned goods, alcohol, and medical equipment.

Fun fact, the original Dawn of the Dead movie was filed at Monroeville Mall outside of Pittsburgh. I worked there in high school.
As far as where we would go, part of me says to DH's Aunts cottage in northern Ontario. It is pretty remote. But we don't hunt, so the food thing could be an issue. I worry about a Costco or Sam's having too many entrances where a zombie could stumble in. They aren't smart, but they seem to be persistent. So I am back to the aunt's cottage. good water supply (it is on a deep fresh water lake) and we could loot some groceries/home depos/walmarts on the way up so we could get seeds to start farming, get guns/ammo for hunting, supplies to board everything up. At least my diesel car could run on cooking oil if I needed it to!

I am also planning on loading everything up, filling our boat, and heading to an island. Luckily, there are plenty of them in the Washington state sound.
Although speaking of The Walking Dead, is anyone else wondering why they don't make a big spear and start stabbing the walkers on the top of the head while they are standing watch? I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to start taking them out one by one, which lessons the amount of pressure that they are pushing on the fence, and then the noise of them wouldn't be attracting more? Instead, they are just standing up there, for hours and hours, doing nothing......

How would they move them once they died?
Why would they need to move them? At that point, they are dead so they aren't making noise (which attracts more), and they aren't pushing on the walls, and the smell of them surrounding the fence would mask the smell of the living people on the other side of the fence....

If they keep piling up could a big enough pile make it easy for the walkers to just walk over the dense?

I would fight until the bitter end. I've spent a lot of time at night before falling asleep thinking about what I'd do if the zombie apocalypse came. It's my go to scenario (besides winning the lottery) that I like to think about as a way to fall asleep.
My house is built like a treehouse, so step one is to chainsaw all the deck stairs off to restrict access to it. Drop down ladders will be available for the living.

I always wondered why they didn't head to the coast/water on TWD. Definitely thinking boat as part of our plan.
I'm the kid who couldn't play hide and go seek because I would have to pee the moment I started hiding. In my head, I think I would be a total bad ass zombie killer, but I would probably curl up in a ball and wait to die.

Well once they killed off enough of them, they could start moving some of the bodies (or burning them) before more came.
