Finally have a chance to type at a laptop and get this out. It's long so there is a TL;DR at the end.
Tuesday, December 2, at 36 weeks, I went to L&D with contractions that were 5 minutes apart. They checked my cervix and I was 3 cm but only 70%. They gave me medicine to slow labor since I was still on blood thinners. I was diagnosed with pre-term labor, pulled from work, and stopped the Lovenox and baby Asprin. I continued to have contractions off and on for the rest of the week. Sunday, December 6, I went back into the hospital because contractions were 5 minutes apart again and hurting. I was checked with no cervix change, so they gave me Tylonel, and monitored me for an hour. After an hour, there was still no change so they said it was early labor, sent me home. At my OB appointment Wednesday, contractions were about 8 minutes apart and no more painful than they had been over the past week. We set up to do an induction at 38 weeks if I was still pregnant.
About 9:30 that night, I started having cramping in my lower abdomen that was about 6 minutes apart and painful. I took a Tylonel and got DD put to bed. As the night went on, they got worse and the medicine did not help. About 10:30 I was really hurting and they were 4 minutes apart. I called my OB to see if I should go to the hospital or if it was still early labor. I was tired of being stuck with needles and then sent home. The OB said to go ahead and go to the hospital and get checked out. We called my parents to come over and stay with DD. While waiting for them, I went to the bathroom and when I got up there was a bunch of blood in the toilet which was either my mucus plug or bloody show. I didn't know and didn't care, so I took a picture to show L&D when we got there. They could figure it out. We headed to the hospital and the contractions were so intense words were coming out of my mouth that I usually do not utter.
They hooked me up to the monitors and checked my cervix. I was 4 cm and determined to finally be in active labor. After 1 1/2 weeks of labor and it being the middle of the night, there was no doubt about getting an epidural. Once the epidural was in, I had to be on oxygen for a bit, but was able to fall asleep. Unfortunately, it seems the epidural didn't work as well on my right side so I spent more time getting caught up on the third season of Sherlock than actually sleeping. Around 8 AM my epidural machine ran out, but luckily it wasn't too late for my drug dealer to give me a top off. As I saw it, 50% of the pain was better than 100% of the pain I had with DD. As the baby's head started going down, the right side started to hurt really bad and waiting for the doctor to start pushing felt like an eternity. When she finally got there, I did about 4 pushes and Logan Pierce was born weighing 6 lbs 2 oz and 20 cm long. Just a little off from the 7lb 4oz estimate the MFM gave on Tuesday.
There was no issues with Logan's sugars and no NICU stay was needed. We are completely in love though so lost and confused we seem like first time parents. DD came home from the NICU at 20 days old, so we have never taken care of anything this tiny or young before.
TL;DR After 1 & 1/2 weeks of early labor, 11 hours of active labor, and a crap epidural, Logan Pierce was born healthy and perfect!
