Hi all. I've been poking around on here the last few weeks, but thought I should officially introduce myself.
After 2+ years dealing with infertility, 2 rounds of ivf, an incompetent cervix diagnosis, cerclage, 5 weeks of home bedrest, pprom, and 10 days of hospital bedrest my twin boys arrived 12/3 at 28 weeks. Liam was 2lb 8oz, 14in. Sean was 3lb 1oz, 15.5in.
Both boys have really been doing well overall, but I know we still have a long road ahead. I'm back at work because I don't really have any leave and what little I do get I want to have when they come home. DH and I meet at the hospital after work every day, eat dinner there, kangaroo the boys for 1-2 hours, and then go home to bed. Luckily we are only 10-20 minutes from the hospital (depending on traffic).
Looking forward to getting to know you all. Knowing others have survived this stage is reassuring during a time when I feel like all I do, literally, is work, sleep, pump, and sit at the hospital.

Sorry you joined the ranks of preemie moms, but welcome! DD was born at 28 weeks too, and I totally agree with you about eat, sleep, pump, kangaroo. I'm sorry you had to go back to work so soon. I went back after three weeks because otherwise I wouldn't have any time once she came home.
Congratulations on your twin boys! Welcome to the board. At least your work let you come back; I wasn't allowed back to work while my son was in the NICU because my maternity leave needed to be continuous. I hope that the boys continue to do well! We all know what you are going through, so please don't be a stranger.

That's crazy! I'd love to spend more time with them right now, but I know they are in good hands and I'd hate to have to cut my time with them at home short. I hope you at least had a decently long leave paired with a short nicu stay.
I've been really lucky with my job, they were incredibly accommodating while I was on bedrest. My paid leave is basically non-existent because I haven't been with them long enough to qualify, but it looks like they are going to grant me unpaid leave even though they don't have to.
Congrats on your twin boys kate61487! What a journey...sorry that you had to find yourself here but welcome and I hope you have a short and uneventful NICU stay.
Hi pineapplesmoothie . Slow and steady wins the race, right? Both boys are doing well, they are already a month old and I can hardly believe it.
Liam is 3lb 14oz. He is on 3L of room air and doing really well so will hopefully be weaned a little more in the next day or so. He's getting 32ml of fortified breastmilk by ng tube. They are 33w GA tomorrow so we've still got a bit of time before they try feeds by mouth, but we started nuzzling / non-nutritive bf a few days ago. Liam roots like crazy, though once he finds what he's looking for he falls asleep, haha
Sean is 4lb 4oz. He's on 2.5L room air and there was talk of taking him down to 2 today. He gets 36ml at each feed. He doesn't root quite as much as Liam, but once he gets a hold of my nipple damn that boy can suck hard.
They are both still in the isolets, I'm hoping to see them in open cribs soon. The hospital's policy is 1600 grams (they're both way past) and 5 days in a row of gaining. Liam's past that, but had one day in the last 5 of no weight change so his primary nurse is being a bit overly cautious imo. Sean met the criteria before we ever even asked about the criteria, but then they started giving him a diuretic because he had some swelling so he did lose a tiny bit.
AFM, I'm doing okay. I'm exhausted all the time, and I don't even have babies waking me up all night. I still don't totally feel like a mom, but I do feel closer to them the more I get to hold them. They are actually filling out preemie sized clothes now
Thanks also, update - Sean was in an open crib today! So weird and cool. I tried to change his diaper from his feet and I've gotten weirdly comfortable with the sideways diaper change, it's like I'd never changed a normal diaper before

Our nurses surprised us with the open crib. I got there in the afternoon after work and I noticed a couple of our favorite nurses were loitering outside the room, which kind of freaked me out (lots of people outside the room was never good), but then I saw her in the crib all bundled up and started crying.
Also, I still change her clothes from the bottom up, which I did in the nicu to avoid her cannula and feeding tube. It works really well, especially for blowouts lol
