Anyone with complex ovarian cyst, now or previously? Updated

Sorry if this is an AW but I made the mistake of Dr. Google and am now completely freaked out. (I did hold out like 36 hours before Googling... damn the internet) Does anyone else have any experience with a complex ovarian cyst during pregnancy? A different clinic does the A/S screen at my practice, so the doctor at the A/S wouldn't tell me anything about it, size etc., just that it was a complex cyst so my doctor would discuss the next steps forward. I have to wait until my appointment next week to hear details. I checked the high risk board but there isn't much action over there and nothing on this. Thanks ladies.

I have a tiny cyst, I have no idea what it's called or if its complex, but my doctors aren't worried.

I will be thinking of you and hoping it's nothing to be worried about at all. I know it's nerve wracking waiting on answers. When do you expect to hear from your doctor?

Thank you girpipley. This is minor compared to what you're going through and so hug and my sincere gratitude for your support. I knew I had a cyst from the beginning, but it has been getting bigger instead of shrinking and I didn't know it was complex until this appt. I see the Dr. on Wednesday.

I am sorry you have a cyst, too, and really hope this post didn't cause you any further stress in that regard. I would hazard a guess that yours is not complex because of all the scans you've had; your doc is awesome and would have told you, I think, and they are far less common than simple cysts. So sorry if I did cause undue extra stress!

Honey, you are fine, and did not cause any stress to me!! The situation I am in sucks. That's true. But it doesn't negate anyone else's fears or discomforts! You are entitled to every bit of worry or concern you have about your body sweetie.

Hopefully your doctor can give you some more info on WEDNESDAY! <---- my phone auto corrects that W word that way, and it's too much hassle to try to change it, so excuse me for yelling.

My cousin had one in each of her pregnancies. She had to have c sections so the cyst could be removed. Otherwise everything was okay and normal. She had a lot of ultrasound to keep an eye on its growth.

Thank you, ladies. jessila that is good to know, thank you for sharing. I hope to avoid an automatic c-section as a result but if that's the worst of it, I'll be grateful! I'll update Wednesday.

Google anything and it will eventually tell you that you are going to die. Don't google

I have a friend that has one that is a dermoid cyst. Typically benign but tiny chance that it can become malignant. Her OB suggested removal sometime after she delivers.

At the a/s, they found cysts totaling 6cm. I do not have pcos, but have had issues with cysts and getting pregnant.

The doc told me not to worry myself because we were not going to do anything about them now. After the baby, we need to do removal (again, ugh). They would monitor after the baby as the innards are moving back to where they belong to make sure they don't get twisted around tubes, etc.

So, don't bother stressing yet, we have a bigger LO to worry about. ?

pickles I know, I shouldn't have Googled. I tried to resist! I just didn't know anything about it and my mind was, of course, imagining the worst; thankfully it is extremely unlikely to lead to ovarian cancer which was my biggest fear. I'm really glad to hear that they're not requiring a c-section for your friend because it is a dermoid.

b4ebeth, AWESOME to hear that they're not going to take any action until after delivery, short of the extra monitoring of course. Sorry you have one, too!

They found an ovarian cyst during my A/S too. It was at one of those radiology places so I haven't talked to my OB about it yet either. My next appointment is Thursday. However you better believe I was watching the tech like a hawk during all of her measurements of it-- most of them where within the 3-4cm range. And the second the tech walked out the door to show the doctor all of her pics of my LO, I was on my phone Googling the crap out of it. I didn't read much but I did read something about cysts that size using being benign and that it could resolve on its own, which is what I would hope for. Definitely nothing about C-sections, which I assume this cyst is too small for something that extreme, but I'm glad I didn't because that would have scared the crap out of me. Yes, please let us know what they say at your appointment ladysif If they have to do something after the baby is born it wouldn't be the end of the world, but I guess I'm hoping they won't have to do anything except continue to keep an eye on it?

ETA: FWIW, the cyst looked huge on the screen but the measurements showed it was much smaller than I thought.

Update: So it is an endometrioma, which are normally benign. Measuring around 4cm and slightly larger than before but compared with the last three ultrasounds, remaining relatively stable in terms of size. I will not have to have a mandatory c-section for it unless some further complication develops, though if I were to end up with a c-section for another reason, they may just take care of it then. Dr. said most likely result is I will have a laparoscopic surgery to remove it after my 6-week post-partum check up. I have to watch for pain in the meantime and will be having ultrasounds every 4 weeks now, but that is more related to my GD as apparently baby's growth will block their ability to see the cyst over time.

ladysif so you knew you had the cyst before?  did they tell you it was there on your previous ultrasounds?  I had three ultrasounds prior to the A/S for NT scan, and 2 dating scans and I don't remember seeing or hearing anything about a cyst until the A/S.  I am glad I have my appointment today, I am really anxious to hear what my OB is going to say.

Widget123 I did know about it from my first dating ultrasound; they found it then and have measured it each time. My Dr. wasn't worried and thought it would dissolve on its own by 12-16 weeks so I didn't pay it much heed and that's why I couldn't remember the size. I hope your appointment went well and FX that perhaps yours has decided to go away completely! If not, I hope you get the kind of news I did with respect to how to proceed. Let me know!
