Good news after my appointment yesterday, we seemed to have figured out what's caused my previous losses, bad news I don't understand any of it. My ob informed me yesterday that I am protein S deficient which could be what has caused my past losses. He didn't give me much info other than to take baby aspirin every day and in a few weeks he will run more blood to see if I need to be on heparin. I tried researching on my own and couldn't find anything that was not super science-y. Do any of you ladies have experience?

I think @meladoriestar had experience with this, but she just had her rainbow so I'm not sure how much she's on here these days. I do know that Protein S decreases throughout pregnancy, so if you are going in with a deficiency, it will only get lower during pregnancy. This can be a risk for blod clots, which can be mitigated with Lovenox or Heparin. I know many ladies with clotting issues who are on those drugs after a BFP. (I'm on Lovenox as a prophylactic because, although I haven't been diagnosed with a clotting disorder, there are blood clot issues in my family and, after 4 losses, I'm not taking any chances)

Me (37) + DH (39) BFP #1: DS born July 2011 BFPs #2,3,4,5: Four losses from Nov 2013-Nov 2014. Yeah, that sucked. BFP #6: 1/5/15 - Rainbow baby boy born 9/16/15
Hi there. Yes I was diagnosed with protein s deficiency. I took baby aspirin through my third pregnancy (before they knew about the protein s) and it ended in loss. After that I saw an RE who ran more tests and found it. She said that with it, I definitely needed Lovenox/heparin. She referred me to a hematologist who agreed. According to them, my numbers were barely abnormal but still warranted lovenox. I got the impression that lovenox was pretty standard with protein s deficiency and honestly I wouldnt be comfortable taking only aspirin to treat it (but that's just based on my experience of aspirin not working).
My original plan was daily Lovenox injections through 36 weeks, then switch to Heparin injections three times daily until delivery, then back to Lovebox for 6 weeks postpartum. Of course my little guy showed up at 31 weeks so that didn't happen
If you have any other questions, let me know. (And yeah, I'm here daily but don't read many threads so tag me so I definitely see it).
ETA: my MFM described it as basically the protein s was likely causing blood clots where the placenta was forming and cutting off blood supply. I've never had actual blood clots before though.
Thanks so much ladies. Getting that information is super helpful, I think I might call my OB tomorrow and express my concerns and hopefully get on something better even just as a precaution.
