What is your Go-to Birthday party gift?

(I've got a 4 year old little girl's party this weekend. Wanna spend $20 or so, it's a daycare kiddo so I don't know much about their likes or dislikes and have never met the parents but am looking forward to it). I know she dislikes playing with boys (silly girl),  and I don't want to do clothes.

Hum. For that age I would probably do a Barbie, a small Lego set or some craft stuff.

Oh yes - Cosette got a bath time Barbie and Ken for $5 each that she LOVES playing in the tub with. I forgot about them. That would be easy. And legos are always a hit. Or maybe a book with it - I like those 5 minute bedtime stories ones.

Elena has one at the end of the month for a 4 year old boy. He's her "best friend" she says.

If you wanted to do a book, I highly recommend Ladybug Girl books. We love them!
Dress up stuff (princess, butterfly wings, jewelry, etc), little dolls (tinker bell, Barbie Chelsea, princesses, character figurines), and baby doll accessories (feeding, clothes, chairs, strollers, etc) seem to be super popular with 3.5 to 4 year old girls in our play group.

My girls would love any of these. My girls also love jewelry making kits. Melissa and Doug make great sets with large wooden beads that are easy for little hands.

Games are fun at this age too. We got don't break the ice for Christmas and both kids love to play.

I usually go the craft consumable route if I do not know the kiddo's interests - construction paper, glitter crayons, stickers, kids stamps, etc. My thought is the weather is crummy so it is good for stay in the house days.

Henry got a "chutes and ladders" type board game for Christmas and I was a little unsure because I didn't think it would hold his attention and he loves it! He asks to play it at least once a day since he got it.

board games. Hanna got Pop the Pig and Candyland. They've changed the candyland from what it was when V was little and it's a little easier. There are no more cards, just a spinny thing. So basically they only need to know their colors and how to count to 2. Also, Pop the pig was pretty simple. Counting and colors.

I would try a craft thing too. Hanna had these really cool stitching things in her church bag over Xmas. It was a snowman and the outside had holes and then a shoelace to stictch through them. That occupied her the entire service. I wonder if they would be sold somewhere.

M&D stamp sets. My son loves those and there are a lot of different choices.

tribute17, yes that's almost exactly what we got. She didn't do it perfectly by all means but got the concept and best of all it occupied her.

I was thinking the same thing.  I'm going to have lots of airplane rides coming up or picking people up from the airport (45 min) that I'm going to need something for him to do.  These look thin and can fit in a backpack.

I like this idea. My house is overflowing with toys right now and I'd appreciate this kind of consumable gift.
