We will do it when he shows signs of readiness. The boys doctor has a good list of cues like losing the tongue thrust reflex, showing interest in your food. Able to sit in the high chair. I forget the rest.
With my Daughter we started a bit after 4 months per the pedi's recommendation. That was 4 years ago though so I am curioius to hear if his thoughts have changed over time. Baby boy will be 4.5 months for his 4 month appt so we wont start til then for sure.
This is at the top of my list for DS's 4 month appt in 2 weeks. I'm thinking it'll be around 6 months, but I'd love to hear our pedi's opinion before I decide.
DX: MFI TTC April 2011 BFP #1 7/15/11, EDD 3/22/12 - CP Varicocelectomy surgery 9/4/12 - T improved to normal, but still MFI IVF #1 w/ ICSI Jan 2015 - 11R/6M/6F, ET of a 3AB expanded blast w/ none to freeze.

I voted 6 months, but if he isn't showing signs of readiness at that point we will hold off. I plan on doing BLW this time around. With my oldest, we started cereal at 4.5 months when the Pedi gave us the green light. I was so desperate for him to start sleeping more than 2 hours by that point. This time around I have an easier baby, and am in no hurry to start solids. FF baby vs. BF baby... go figure.
It is enough work feeding the toddler every day, definitely don't feel like starting solids for this baby anytime soon.
We will start yogurt at around 6 months and then Cheerio's at around 10 months. DD's food allergy doctor recommends giving a small amount of peanut butter as early as 4 months so we will probably try that.
We did peanut butter before a year with DD too and she did just fine. (We did have an epipen on standby just in case). I've read some studies are now saying that early exposure (even when the baby is in the womb)can help with allergies

I asked this question because DH is friends with our pedi. He texted him yesterday to ask the pedi about it because DH thinks that DS isn't sleeping enough at night. Our pedi says he recommends that babies who are having trouble sleeping at night start solids at 4 months. I personally feel that it's a little too early.
I can say though DD was ready at 5 months and I should have started then instead of 6 months (she was grabbing food out of my hand, already had 5 teeth was sitting up etc)

I personally am thinking 6 months but I want to wait and confirm that with the doctor especially since dd was 3 weeks early. I'm not sure if the adjusted age comes into play here. Can't believe it's so soon though, ahh!!!
I know isn't crazy that we are even talking about this?! Where did the time go???

It probably depends on the baby, my 35 weeker showed all the signs of readiness at 5.5 months actual. He has been an awesome eater ever since.
We have her 4 month appt next week, so we'll ask then. I'm planning to follow the current recommendation of exclusive bf/breast milk until 6 months, but I think she's showing signs of being ready now. She makes chewing motions and is seriously interested in my food. We don't have a high chair yet, but she can hang out in a bumbo thing with no problem, as well as her jumperoo. And she's starting to try to hold her own bottle.
I think MH wants to try sooner than I do, but I do want her to try errythang when she's ready! I was such a picky eater and it was so embarassing as I got older, I don't want her to deal with that.

I gave JJ a taste of her first solid food (bananas) and it was a major hit. She even gave me the "you have been holding out all this time" face. Waiting 3-4 days before giving her some more. She was definitely showing the signs that she was ready for some solids which is why I tried. I started with about 4 spoons only. Originally I wanted to wait for 5 months, but I could not deny my fatty some good food. We might try green beans tomorrow.

My little chunker has been showing all the signs. He has been eating solids for about 2-3 weeks now. However we only give them maybe once or twice(maybe 3 times a week) so far he has had carrots, green beans, apples. I think he has also had bananas.. He likes the food better than his formula.. We always wait at least 2 days between trying new things
@saveourship, can you link to some articles? I think mh wants to try soon, but I'm inclined to wait until 6 months. I know we'd both like to see the research to support the 6 month timeline.
Thank you, @saveourship! I thought it was an interesting point that solids take the place of breastmilk, which is something I had assumed as a given, but maybe I should adjust my thinking on that? I'm trying to make sure I have my pumping times protected in my calendar, but I'm not sure if I should drop a session after she starts solids, or make solids like a treat until she's one...guess I'll add that to the question list for her appointment Monday.
Mostly selfish reasons, but we will be waiting until at least 6 months. Feeding them takes a long time and I will really need to adjust our schedule to make time for it since I have to feed all the kids by myself most days of the week. We will do BLW again. We kind of did it by accident with my daughter because she HATED purées. She was eating table foods by 7 months and it was soooo much easier.
I am on the fence if we will do 6 months or 6 months adjusted (which would be 7 months). The pedi said we would talk about solids at his 6 month appointment. So we will see what he says then.
I picked 4 months, because we will probably start cereal then. Even with medicine, he is spitting up a ton. He is always hungry, and I think it is because he spits up so much. We are going to try putting cereal in his bottles, but that only works when he gets a bottle and doesn't nurse. So we may start cereal (very soupy cereal) early to see if that helps decrease his spitting up. He currently nurses for an hour in the morning, gets 3-4 bottles at DC, and then nurses for 3 hour-long sessions in the evening, and gets a 3 oz supplementing bottle (only home and awake for 5 hours). I used to only pump 4-5 ounces, now I am up to 7-8, so I know he is actually eating for that entire hour. Depending on how much he is actually eating when nursing, he gets 30-40 ounces of bm and 8-10 oz of formula a day. I cannot continue at this rate; I'm so exhausted. So we need to try something else to get him to keep food down. (Even when he was eating less, he was spitting up this much, so I don't think he's over eating.)
I'm going to go with whatever my pedi recommends. LO has been slow to gain weight so I don't expect he'll want us to wait until 6 months if she's showing signs of readiness.
We talked about it with her pedi on Monday, he basically said to try when we feel she's ready and that waiting til 6 months is no biggie. MH is on board for waiting after all, so that's all good.

All of these plus baby being able to show you they are done/day no.
