So, a spot in my boob feels bruised / tender to the touch. I can't detect a plugged duct and I've just drained the thing. Beyond the routine and tips for a plugged duct any other ideas what may be up or what I could do?
Isn't it too far into this breastfeeding business for crap like this?
It could still be a clogged duct.. I think it can happen at any point in the game. Maybe dry warm compresses and pop the baby on that boob when you can? Otherwise, maybe give your LC a ring?
Yes my docs have prescribed me things while on vacation. Just look up the name/ adress/ number of the closest pharmacy so they know where to call it in.
I think that in emergency situations pharmacies are approved to honor an out of state Rx but I think they would negate all refills -- that was my experience with ny and colorado.
Yes MDs can write out of state scripts. Make sure you talk to your doc today if you are having those symptoms. They may send you to an urgent care office. Hope you feel better soon
Thanks all. I'm 99% sure it's mastitis. And getting worse by the minute. Still waiting on my doctor. Going to call again before lunch and be that patient.
Oh no! T&P's ns1! I hope you get a hold of your dr. I think the stress from traveling, being off your normal schedule and stuff can bring it on. I know last time we traveled I battled a clogged duct. Sorry that yours is worse

Definitely sounds like mastitis. I got that twice with DS1 and it was AWFUL - I felt like I had the flu and could barely MOVE! IF you call your OB and tell them your symptoms, they should be able to call in the antibiotic that treats it. The good news is, I swear the meds helped almost instantly.
Thanks ladies. Got to talk to the nurse finally. Now waiting for her to talk to the dr and call back. She seemed baffled about how to get me the meds out of state. Ugh.
Also, I can't get a let down on that side pumping or with DS. Miserable.
Oh no. Mastitis is the worst. I hope your OB's office puts in the rx for you soon. Or I would go to the nearest urgent care.
If you are having trouble with letdown maybe try massage/ hand expressing in the shower? I had the same problem when I had mastitis and that helped me empty out a bit more.
Check your nipples for white spots after heating. Sometimes the clogs can be in the nipple and you can squeeze it out... hurts and is gross, but it does work.
Glad you got the script and hope it helps quickly.
I also talked to an LC a few weeks back about my stubborn clog.
Fill a sink or large container with hot water (as hot as you can handle). Lean over it and dangle your breasts into the hot water and just let them hang out there for awhile (5-10 minutes). Immediately after nurse (or pump if unable to nurse right away) - but right away. Do it on all fours if you can.
I plan to try this tomorrow night (dinner at the ILs tonight).
Thanks ladies! I'm over the mastitis so don't feel like I have the flu. We're back home too so that's nice.
I took today of work to boost my supply and try to get rid of the clogged duct which seems to still be there. So a lot of hot conpresses and pumping on all fours today. Also have plans for mother's milk tea and lactation cookies.
Any other ideas for getting rid of the clog or boosting my supply this late in the game would be appreciated!
I got a plugged duct about a month ago and was really surprised since we've been doing this whole breastfeeding thing for 8 plus months now. But I nursed DD on all fours like what you've done with pumping. Also if you can get LO to nurse, not sure if he is still not interested or not, but try positioning him to where his chin is close or on the plugged duct. That way it helps push it out and massage it at the same time. That's what worked for me. I still have the white speck on my nipple and a little pain but not nearly as bad as it was a few weeks ago. Hope it goes away soon! Having these issues this late into it just isn't fair, I'm right there with you on that!
