Is anybody else at a clinic that offers the CenteringPregnancy program? Have you heard of it/would you try it?
I hadn't, but my clinic offers it and it sounds nice. Basically, instead of a regular individual monthly appointment, you meet in a group setting with other moms who are due around the same time. Everybody gets a one on one check with the midwife in private, then there's a group discussion/info session on a different pregnancy/childbirth/baby care topic. Also they have snacks and soothing music (at this one anyway).
I'm giving it a try. If I decide I don't like it I can just tell them and switch back to regular appointments. I think it sounds like an IRL BMB.

My OBGYN's office has a midwife group that has Centering Pregnancy. I decided to stick with the doctors (as opposed to the midwives) though so that automatically removes CP as an option.
Even if I was seeing the midwives I probably wouldn't have done it due to timing of meetings. Would have been hell to drive into the city where the office is in time for the sessions.
That sounds awesome! I see the midwives at my hospital, but they don't offer CP that I'm aware of. I switched from a home birth midwife at 36 weeks last time so this will be my first full pregnancy with them.
I just want to say that I was followed by a midwife for my last pregnancy and I will also by followed by her this time around and it is amazing. The relationship we built and the time she spent with us is not comparable to what I would have had with an ob. Don't get me wrong, obs are very necessary and most of them are great (I had to be transferred to one for the last few days of my pregnancy because of high blood pressure).
I highly recommend them if you are not high risk. Even my husband who wasn't really onboard at the beginning was completely sold. We were both sad after our last appointment with DS. I'm in Ontario and I know that the role of midwives are different depending on where you are though.

sodapop I'm so glad you had such a great experience with your midwife! I had an OB last time around, who was also wonderful, but I think I'll like having a midwife as well.
The meeting times are actually pretty convenient for me, since they mean that my husband only needs to do an hour of work from home time on appointment days to watch our son. I can see why people might only want to do it for a first pregnancy, and I don't know how much of the info session portion I'll find useful, but I don't know a lot of people in town still, and I know no one with small children. I think it'll be a nice way to meet other moms.

I go to a large practice of both OBs and midwives. You can choose to see both but since I'm low risk I see the midwives since they will most likely deliver me. The midwife who delivered my daughter was excellent and I'm hoping she'll be on call when I go into labor with this one.
I would have done it with my first, it sounds pretty neat. Now that I've done it once and I have a little one that I would need to find child care for I probably would opt out.
