Okay so I just wanted to share a little something that I read on someone's FB last night and it is still really bothering me, I want to respond, but I don't know how to properly articulate my frustrations, without perhaps starting an unnecessary FB discussion/battle about compassion.
She shared this article about a little girl born in a shed to a mother who is homeless. www.cambridgetimes.ca/news-story/6241536-born-in-abandoned-shed-baby-destiny-doing-really-well-/#.VqD-wALVG4l.facebook (short version, this is the 5th baby, but mother does not have custody of any of her children. It does not explain details, other than mother is homeless and suffers from addictions, however she has taken steps to remain clean during this pregnancy). The comment that was posted with this article was:
It is so wonderful that this precious, innocent baby is thriving and receiving excellent care. However, there is a side of me that is irritated with the fact that this is the 5th child born to this woman, who doesn't have custody of ANY of her children! Hopefully the care and support they are offering to the mother include educating her about birth control so she doesn't bring any more children into the world that she cannot take care of!!! *End rant!*
Some of the comments (there was a comment on there that went on about how our government shouldn't be helping the refugees, but helping 'our own', that was since removed. Not the point of the OP's rant):
crazy how some women can't get pregnant and someone that doesn't have their children can't stop having them.
Pretty sad and ironic isn't it?!
They have helped her. She has had help but he wants drugs more.
Wife said on a moms group or ctv news post on fb (forget what one) someone posted her whole life story of she has sex for money and and big druggy. Can't help someone who does not want help.
She has been offered help and chooses drugs every time. At least the refugees are thankful for help. The refugees were living in fear of being killed or tortured. This girl has had lots of chances. I'm sad for her that she chooses drugs over these precious little children she has created. A few of her kids were born addicted to method. She is disgusting and needs her tubes tied.
get the government to tie her tubes they pay for everything for the people who come in our country
Anyways, what has been bothering me about it is 2 things. First the level of judgement that people feel entitled to have on another's person's life. You don't know her or her story. Where is the compassion for people and understanding that addictions are illnesses for a lot of people that cannot be helped. Second, if it were not for some people who unfortunately are not lucky enough to have a life that is healthy and conducive to raising/parenting when they discover they are pregnant, then many of us would not be able to be parents.
Sorry that this got very long. I want to comment on the post, but feel like it would be falling on deaf ears. WWYD?
