So today wasn't the greatest of days. But, little buddy totally nailed it.
So in part of the crazy...I had dropped DW off. She was clothes shopping and getting her hair done. I took the little buddies grocery shopping which was a mad house. But, before I get there I had to take a call (on-call this week). So, I'm running behind and will not be waiting out front when DW is finished up. We are walking back to the car from returning our cart and my phone alerts me I have a text. I open DS2's door, DS1 crawls through and hops in his seat. I buckle DS2 in and check my text on the way around the car. DW just responded to my text that I was still in line at the store. Her reply was essentially...You dropped me off 1.5 hours ago WTF? I get to the driver side and hop in. I turn the car on and put it in gear. DS1 says "Dad, you forgot to buckle me in". What? Sorry dude. I buckle him in and said "thanks buddy. Daddy's sorry I was distracted". And this little buddha replies "Dad if you are distracted maybe you need to pay 'tension to what is the most important."
So I'm still chastising myself for almost driving away without DS buckled in yesterday. I strapped him in the stroller to go for a run today and said "I remembered this time." He said "yeah, and I remembered last year (he meant yesterday)." I wasn't sure if it was a dig or not, but it did make me feel better that even though I might not always get it right, I'm teaching him to remember too. Although, I'm pretty sure when he does things like that it's more of a "Dumbass, you forgot!" Not "Hey Dady it'd be cool if you made sure I was safe today."
