This is a due date calculator, but it tells you more than just your due date. I love knowing, at a glance, when the end of the first tri is, and when my anatomy scan will approximately take place. I know it's easy enough to figure these dates out, but this is even easier.

First time moms, please note - Your rectum is going to be swabbed between 35 and 37 weeks. I had completely forgotten about that. lol

It's quick and painless. Your doctor will swab your rectum and vagina to test for Group B Strep.

"Group B streptococcus (GBS) is a type of bacterial infection that can be found in a pregnant woman’s vagina or rectum. This bacteria is normally found in the vagina and/or rectum of about 25% of all healthy, adult women. Women who test positive for GBS are said to be colonized. A mother can pass GBS to her baby during delivery.

GBS affects about 1 in every 2,000 babies in the United States. Not every baby who is born to a mother who tests positive for GBS will become ill. Although GBS is rare in pregnant women, the outcome can be severe. As such, physicians include testing as a routine part of prenatal care."

Oh, and if you test positive, they put you on IV antibiotics during labor/delivery.

Do you mean with regard to Group B Strep? I'm not a doctor, but I'd assume the same protocol would be followed. If you go into labor, they put you on IV antibiotics at the hospital. You'll have to ask your doctor that, but that's my guess!

Depends entirely on why you are at risk- answers can range all over the board.

jwinct, raechay, sorry, I meant, do they test you earlier? I guess I ask because I have a tiny chance of twins - it sort of runs in the family. And given I'm tiny, if I was having two, I'd definitely be risking preemies. I guess no matter what, if you go into labor early and haven't been tested, they test you at the hospital?

@kitchen, so sorry that you may not be able to do a home birth per your wishes.

macaronmama - if they think you could have preemie(s) then you would be tested earlier. In both my previous pregnancies I was never swabbed because GBS showed up in first tri urine cultures. So that could potentially be a thing for you too! Oh the fun.

@kitchen, I was GBS+ with DD too and didn't have time to get the IV. I was triaged at 7pm and she was born at 9:05pm lol. Because I didn't get admitted to the post partum ward until after 11 (their cut off for considering it a full "night"), I had to spend 3 nights there, which sucked. DH and I were so ready to get home.
