Hi! I got a BFP this morning, so here I am! I hung out a lot on the June14 board at TD during my first pregnancy and hope to do the same here this time around.
About me: My DH and I have been married for almost 6 years. We have a 19 month old DD, 2 dogs, and a cat all crammed into a tiny bungalow in Ontario, Canada, that we renovated top-to-bottom a couple years ago. I quit my job after my first DD was born and took the opportunity mat leave gave me to go back to school for a degree in library science. I graduate this April as long as I can keep the pregnancy brain at bay, and I am so excited to be done with classes and assignments.
macaronmama, cool! I started out doing a joint degree, library science and archives and record management, but ended up dropping the archives stream because I couldn't see the purpose of it when I want to be a public librarian. Turns out it was a bit short sighted... my school is slowly abandoning library science in favour of information and technology studies and I had a really hard time getting useful courses this semester. But, it's my last and at least I'll have the ALA accredited degree, right?

k2tog, I was about to ask about the ALA accreditation. I had a cousin who went to get her library degree in Toronto but it wasn't accredited and she had real issues finding a job back here in the states. I focused in records management, actually, and just in time too because there's a huge need for it at the moment and the school just dropped that particular focus in favor of digital curation.
Are you already in a lib job atm? Or are you a full time student?
macaronmama yup, my school is accredited! I wonder if she did the library technician program at Seneca College? It's pretty well known and well respected, at least here in Ontario, but no accredited.
Nope, no library job yet. In fact, I have no library experience at all. I started the program full time when my DD was 2 months old, so I made the decision not to go after a library job. I don't think I would have been able to handle it, new baby + school + new job. So, I'm applying for jobs this semester, but I fully expect I may have to go after some volunteer opportunities before I get anything. There are days I worry that I've spent 2 years and $25,000 on a degree I'm never going to use.

k2tog , our program requires that we do a field study to graduate. AKA as the class where you pay $2000 to go work for free at a library or archives somewhere. I hope you find something! Does INALJ post Canadian positions?
macaronmama, Yes, I'm doing a practicum course right now! 105 hours of work on a project for a local library. It's good experience for sure, and is definitely getting me some good contacts in the Toronto library system.
Yes I keep my eye on that site! Of course, I've made life a ton more complicated for us by deciding not to wait for the perfect job before having our second baby... They're not supposed to discriminate, but if I show up at an interview with an obvious bump, they totally will. It's one of the few downsides of our year long paid maternity leave.
